Defending AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies, riding hurt at Mid-Ohio, has “the charisma of a potted palm and a personality almost as interesting as tapioca pudding” according to Rob McCurdy of the News Journal, who added “…and I can’t find one thing the least bit compelling about him.” Read about it here: Mansfield NewsJournal And now, a reader comments: FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: Just hours ago, I heard Lewis Black say that blogging is like masturbating in front of a mirror while videotaping yourself, so you can watch it later while you masturbate. After reading McCurdy’s report about AMA racing in general, and the comments about Ben Spies in particular, I find myself suddenly thinking that this quote was sent down to me by the racing gods so I could share it with your readers. I would spend more time commenting on that article, but it would only bring more attention to it. I will say, however, that there seems to be people in Ohio who blame Spies for the top racers’ decision not to compete on a wet track not even suitable for trucks a couple of years ago. Because as we all know, these grown men do what Spies decides for them. Maybe it’s just a coincidence a local “writer” covering motorcycle racing at mid-Ohio doesn’t like him, maybe it isn’t. Papa A.
