Former Swedish Grand Prix rider Kent Andersson passed away yesterday. He was 64 years old. Kent Andersson was born on August 1, 1942 in Landvetter (Sweden). He started in competition at the age of 19 with a 250cc Monark; then he rode a Bultaco. He scored his first points in Grand Prix racing in 1966, in the 250cc class riding a Husqvarna. In 1969 on a Yamaha, he took his first Grand Prix wins in the 250cc class (Germany and Finland), and finished runner-up in the World Championship behind Kel Carruthers; he was third of this same class in 1970. In 1972 he was chosen by the Yamaha factory to ride the new 125cc machine: he finished second in the Championship. In 1973, he won five races and took his first World Champion title. The second title came the following year, in 1974, also with five wins. He finished third in 1975. He won 18 Grand Prix races in total in his career, 14 in the 125cc class and 4 in the 250cc class.
