Sandy Rainey, the father of 3-time 500cc World Champion and MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey, died last night in Southern California after a short illness. He was in his 70s.

A kart and motorcycle racer, Sandy Rainey was a key figure in Wayne Rainey’s career, as described in Wayne Rainey’s AMA Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame biography, seen here:
