Officials from Road Atlanta, including track president Geoff Lee, held a meeting with selected AMA riders Friday at Daytona International Speedway to collect feedback from them on proposed changes to make their track safer for motorcycle racers. “They’re talking about making some fairly major changes to Turn 12 and Turn Four,” Mladin told Roadracingworld.com after the meeting, which included Ben Bostrom and Tommy Hayden. “What they’re wanting to do to Turn 12 looks really, really good. What they want to do with Turn Four still needs a bit of work.” “They want to make sure Turns 12 and Four safe for bikes,” said Bostrom. “What they have planned for Turn 12 looks pretty good, very safe. Turn Four, their plan wasn’t gonna work and it was gonna cost too much money.” Bostrom said a rider was going to have to go to Road Atlanta and “eyeball it, because it’s too hard to put on paper.” “I also told them they need to fix the back straight,” added Bostrom. “You’ve got a 180 mph corner [Turn Nine] and a wall right there. They need to straighten it out.” Road Atlanta is working toward a goal of having the changes to Turns Four and 12 done before the AMA Superbike event there August 29-31, 2008, according to the riders.
