Donations to the Roadracing World Action Fund, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization promoting motorcycle racing safety to reduce the risk of injury on the racetrack, have reached a grand total of $632,622.05 over seven years, thanks to members of the motorcycle racing community’s continuing support. Donations that have arrived since June 30th of this year alone have totaled $23,797.08. Race organizations have contributed heavily, with CMRA sending $4300 and AMA sending $500. Individual NESBA members contributed a total of $550. Raising cash for the Action Fund is now a part of every ASRA race weekend. Starting at VIR in June, officials began to display an Action Fund donation jar at the ASRA merchandise table, encouraging passers-by to contribute. That strategy has worked well, with jar collections totaling $507 at the VIR event and $405 at the subsequent Summit Point event. And new 2008 ASRA Thunderbike Champion Nate Kern donated his purse money from the VIR event – $500! Motorcycle industry support came from Pirelli in the form of a fundraiser held at the AMA/World Superbike event at Miller Motorsports Park, which earned $2500 each for the Action Fund and another charity, Racing 2 Save Lives. Pirelli sold spectators numerous sporting items such as books, hats and T-shirts, donating 100% of the proceeds. Long-time contributor Max McAllister of Traxxion Dynamics donated another $1500, bringing his overall total to $9500. McAllister’s first donation came in 2001, when he donated $2900, the amount one section of inflatable Airfence soft barrier cost at the time. McAllister has donated steadily since then. Kurveygirl.com – Got Dzus Campaign has donated a portion of their sales of Dzus bolts to the Roadracing World Action Fund, and recently sent in a check for $2052 to cover sales year-to-date. Since 2006, Kurveygirl.com has contributed a total of $5002 through this ongoing program. Thomas Patch has donated several times over the years, but his latest donation of $3000, enough to purchase a full 10-foot section of the latest non-inflatable soft barrier, has doubled his running total of $3000 to $6000. Patch has requested that the section be deployed at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire, with a Penguin School logo on the section to encourage track day riders to take the school held there. Patch, who is an instructor at Fishtail Racing School and with the State of Connecticut Motorcycle Safety Program, believes that soft barriers should be used not just during races, but also during motorcycle track day events and racing schools. Cannoli Photography uses a unique ruse to get donations to the Action Fund; proprietor Edmond DeMattia gives away racetrack photos with the proviso that beneficiaries make a contribution. Contributions arriving with the words “Cannoli Photo” in the comments section of the RWAF online donation form came from Brian Ackerman, $100; Ryan Manotti, $50; Michael Tesch, $30; Ryan Manotti, $50; Timothy Tilghman, $20; Anthony Torrance, $10; and Bill Johnson, $5. Posted on the contributor list as Cannoli Photo Fundraiser, the total collected to date is $330. Beverly passed away on July 6, 2008, and her family requested that any gifts in her memory be directed to your organization. In accordance with her family’s wishes, please find our check enclosed in the amount of $25.” Jim and Theresa Kuykendall have donated $500 to the Roadracing World Action Fund “in loving memory of our son, Andrew.” Total donations in memory of Andrew “Skip” Kuykendall have reached $2807. Donations in memory of Jeremy Gordon have grown to a total of $1372, including donations recently received from Joe & Andrea Marietta, $407; Gordon Friends and Family on 4th of July, $350; and Phil Cook, $50. Donations under the banner “Former Aprilia/Moto Guzzi Teammates and Personal Friends in loving honor of John-Mark Arechiga” were received from Helen T. Luttrell, $50; James Viola, $50; Michael Orr, $50; and Mark Sutton, $20. Sarah Lahalih also donated $100 in memory of John Mark Arechiga. A donation in memory of Scott Forsythe in the amount of $260 was received from members of the New Triumph Bonneville Forum (NTBF), including Al Cook, Bluzboy66, Indypikes, Lobo and SCBonnelville. Thomas Kalajian (SC Bonneville) wrote, “A great friend and a great friend of motorcycles, may his memory be honored by helping to protect others.” The Midwest Safety Crew has donated $1472.80 in memory of Bill Ritger, their efforts aimed at increasing soft barrier deployment at Blackhawk Farms Raceway.
