Pueblo, CO – The Motorcycle Roadracing Association held its rescheduled round one at Pueblo Motorsports Park last weekend. On Friday, the PMP management held a track day that was well attended and set the stage for a number of track records to fall.
Pueblo is a track where the big horsepower bikes can take advantage of the very wide 3000 foot front straight. During Race of the Rockies qualifying Sunday morning, Ryan took his Yamaha YZF-R1M to the limit and shattered the Pueblo track record with a 1:29.070. In Burke’s natural humble demeanor he later commented, “It was kind of easy”. Easy or not, it set the bar to which Ricky Orlando, Oleg Pianykh, Aaron Hersh, Ray Thornton, and the rest of the RoR grid needed to achieve.
A very notable absence this weekend was Dan “Otis” Turner. Turner had an unfortunate race transporter accident north of Colorado Springs late Thursday night and suffered a mild concussion. With his transport equipment stacked up and his bell slightly rung, Turner decided to miss a race weekend for the first time in 25 years. We expect to see Turner back at the front for the next MRA round.
At the start of the race, Burke led everyone into turn 1 and basically took off. Due to being forced to start from the back of the grid, Pianykh had to work his way through the field to close on Burke. Coming through turn 5 for the first time, it was Burke, Hersh, Thornton, and Orlando as shown in the photo. Pianykh was able to chase down this group and took over second place during lap 2 with Burke already having escaped. On lap 6, Aaron Hersh crashed in turn 10 leading onto the front straight and was severely injured. This brought out the red flag as the MRA crew attended to the downed Hersh. At the time of this writing, Hersh is still hospitalized. On behalf of the MRA, we wish Aaron a speedy recovery and hope to see him back with us soon.
On the restart, Pianykh got a fantastic start and lead the field for the first lap. Unfortunately, Pianykh’s start was a little too good and he had to serve a stop-n-go penalty for a jumped start. This left Burke again alone at the front with Orlando and Thornton battling for several laps. Orlando go the better of that battle and finished second with Thornton third.
In Race of the Rockies GTU, it was Shannon Moham taking the lead on is Yamaha YZF-R6 with Brian Dobrowolski and Ken Yee in the top three. It immediately became apparent that Wyeth Jackson was going to be charging to the front of the GTU class after having set two class track records earlier that weekend, one in Ladies of the Rockies, the other in Formula 40 GTU . At the end of lap one Jackson was third in GTU and started whittling her way through the GTO riders in an attempt to run down Moham. Jackson wasn’t quite able to match the Moham’s blistering pace and finished second in Race of the Rockies GTU. It’s important to note that Jackson is the first female racer to finish in this second place position. Rounding out the Race of the Rockies podium was Ken Yee. Modeling true privateer perseverance, Yee overcame some substantial mechanical issues during the weekend in order to have his best ever finish Race of the Rockies GTU.

More, from a press release issued by Wyeth Jackson’s publicist:
Wyeth Jackson sets 2 new class records on her Kawasaki ZX-6R and becomes first female MRA racer to finish 2nd in Race of the Rockies GTU
Racing her Wyeth Homes Real Estate Kawasaki ZX-6R, Wyeth Jackson held the points lead in Formula 40 GTU and Ladies of the Rockies going into the MRA weekend at Pueblo Motorsports Park, and hoped to improve her standings in the Supersport classes and Race of the Rockies. Fortunately the weather stayed hot and dry.
Jackson’s first race on Saturday was Formula 40 GTU. Gridded in the 2nd wave of the F40 field, Wyeth holeshotted and set a new class record on lap 2. She led the F40 middleweight field for the entire race and took the win, also working her way through the first wave GTO racers to finish 6th overall on track.
Jackson quickly gridded up for her second Saturday race, Middleweight Supersport. Coming from the second row she was 3rd into turn 1 and held that position for the duration, taking 3rd in MWSS. With just a one race break Jackson jumped back out in Heavyweight Supersport. Again she was 3rd into turn 1, but this time had a close battle the entire race, narrowly hanging onto the final podium position at the checkers.
Sunday morning brought qualifying for Race of the Rockies and Wyeth earned 12th on the overall grid, 4th 600 in the field aboard her ZX-6R. Shortly after, Jackson gridded up for Ladies of the Rockies and led flag to flag, setting another class record in the process of taking the win.
The afternoon heat brought the MRA’s premier class out—Race of the Rockies! Jackson gridded up on the 4th row and found herself deep in the Unlimited GP field going into turn 1. Wyeth managed a couple passes in the first lap before the pack came around onto the big front straight again. Jackson was able to line up a triple draft and sling shot around 3 riders into turn 1, making her the first overall 600! But as she struggled to work around several 1000’s she was overtaken by another rider on an R6. Then a serious crash in turn 10 red flagged the race and the grid had to be restarted. On the second start Jackson was more aggressive into turn 1 and made quick passes in the first few laps. She found herself in 10th overall, battling heavily with a GSX-R1000, and the first 600 in the field was in sight ahead in 8th. Desperate to get past her competitor, Wyeth tried multiple passes around the course but had to settle for 10th, her best finish to date in Race of the Rockies. She earned the 2nd place RoR GTU trophy for the 600 field.
Wyeth would like to thank Pirelli, Oscar Solis + Sol Performance, CTRacing, Kawasaki, GForce Powersports, Bell Helmets, TCX Boots, Wyeth Homes Real Estate, ChickenHawk Racing, Un!nk Printworks, Rising Sun Cycles, SpeedMob, Vortex, Racers Edge Performance and Attack Performance, plus the MRA board and corner crew who put on great race events in Colorado.
More, from a press release issued by Shannon Moham’s publicist:
Six Race Wins for Colorado’s Shannon Moham in rescheduled MRA’s First Round
It’s Pueblo CO. Would you expect anything but opening statements of how hot it was on this rescheduled Round 1 weekend for Colorado’s Motorcycle Roadracing Association (MRA)? The temps were hot, tires were pushed to the limit and riders had on their game faces on for the rescheduled round one, after their first round was cancelled due to snow a few weeks ago. That didn’t stop the MRA’s Marathon Man from bringing home six race wins. Moham grabbed two of these wins while on a new-to-him Imperial Sportbike backed Ducati. Moham put his world renowned Mighty SV on the back burner to race a Ducati 848 prepped by Colorado based Imperial Sportbikes . We can honestly say that there were a few fellow racers that were happy to see him leave the Lightweight classes, but Moham did not disappoint. Moham has a knack for winning, no matter what bike you put him on and, he brought home six race wins (MW Endurance, HW Endurance, Thunder bike, MWSB, HWSB and the premier class of the MRA, ROR U). In addition to the six race wins, Moham grabbed two class track records, one on his Yamaha R6 and one on the Ducati 848.
Moham states, “It’s hard to get an edge in racing, and I only use the best of the best so that I can make my best effort to be on the podium every race weekend”.
Moham accredits his race wins to his amazing sponsors, “I would like to give credit where credit is due; my crew Brandon Johnson, the awesome tires from Dunlop, my incredibly amazing suspension from Race Tech, Imperial Sportbikes who built an incredible Ducati 848 and have been very supportive to me this season, and to Renegade Fuel for providing the best fuel out there.”
Moham would also like to thank the following sponsors: Dunlop Tires, Imperial Sportbikes, Race Tech, Woodcraft, Galfer, Millennium Technologies, Falicon Crankshafts, Armor Bodies, Lockhart Phillips, GPR, Vortex, Pit Bull, Vickery Motorsports, K&N, Bazzaz, CP/Carillo, MotoNation, Motors by Rex, Rocky Mountain Photos, Nordic Nursing.
Moham is excited and looking forward to the next race weekend at HPR in just 2 short weekends. He invites All to come and watch the awesome 4 hour endurance event, in which he will be racing!!!
