Ryan Burke and Shannon Moham take Race of the Rockies podiums at High Plains Raceway

Byers, CO, June 12, 2017 – Round 3 of the MRA Championship series was held at High Plains Raceway with a paddock packed with over 170 racers. The MRA’s superstreet class reached the entry limit of 26 riders with ease. It was the biggest racer turnout in years for the club!

As is typical for HPR, temperatures were warm and the wind varied from gusty to calm throughout the weekend. Ryan Burke maintained his winning form by taking home 5 first place trophies. Shannon Moham and Brian Dobrowolski were also big winners this weekend with both of them taking 3 wins and 3 second place finishes.

In Race of the Rockies GTO, Burke took the lead the first time across the line and left everyone else to scramble for the remaining positions. Brad Hendry mounted a chase for Burke on his NoCo Racing BMW S1000RR. Hendry was able to cut consistent mid-1:48 lap times to claim second place. Ray Thornton chased Ricky Orlando around for the first few laps finally getting the better of Ricky on lap 5 with Mike Applegate on Thornton’s tail. On lap 6, the ever present Dan “Otis” Turner suffered a mechanical problem and retired from the race leaving Thornton to hold off Applegate and Orlando. Unfortunately, Thornton had to serve a stop-n-go penalty with cost him 2 places by the end of the race.

Race of the Rockies GTU saw a battle ensue between Brian Dobrowolski and Shannon Moham. Dobrowolski was able to get by the defending GTU champion Moham one lap before the white flag, but Moham was able to reclaim the top position for the checkered with Nyles Gourlie rounding out the top 3.

The MRA will be at High Plains Raceway for the next round of sprint races on July 8-9 running the north course configuration. The SuperStreet program will also be included in the events. For more information, see http://www.mra-racing.org/superstreet/superstreet-information/
