Ryan Burke Clinches MRA Overall Championship At Pueblo Motorsports Park

Ryan Burke Clinches MRA Overall Championship At Pueblo Motorsports Park

Pueblo, CO – The Motorcycle Roadracing Association hosted round six at Pueblo Motorsports Park (PMP) this past weekend and saw a plethora of both challenges and triumphs (however not of the motorcycle variety). Throughout the two-day event, there were a number of both crashes and lap records, dirt ridings and new victors, and, as always, hot temperatures and track-side shenanigans.

Ryan Burke had an unfortunate incident in turn four during Open Superbike in the morning on Sunday which would have sufficiently rattled any rider. Despite this and other personal challenges, Burke came back out after lunch on Sunday to win Race of the Rockies GTO and cinched his overall championship for the second year in a row. This victory was justly celebrated by Burke’s immensely supportive family following the race. Finishing second was the ever humble Ray Thornton followed by long-standing fast guy Ricky Orlando. There had been a few intense track battles between Orlando and Thornton throughout the earlier parts of the weekend so heading into the premier event, there was hope for more of the same. Unfortunately Orlando fancied himself a little dirt riding in the infield of the course and subsequently lost a considerable amount of ground to Thornton that he was unable to make up in the remaining laps. Perhaps during the final round in September, Thornton and Orlando will have another opportunity to challenge each other.

In Race of the Rockies GTU, the marathon man Shannon Moham had more than just his victory to celebrate. Over the course of the weekend Moham set not one, not two, but five new class record lap times for PMP. Among these was the RoR GTU record which he now holds with a 1:33.564 lap time. Second place went to Wyeth Jackson who was consistent and comfortable lapping around her favorite track in the MRA’s circuit. During the post race interview she attributed her favor with PMP to the excellent flow that the track has and that was most certainly reflected in her ease of excellent riding during the entire weekend. Third place for RoR GTU has seemed to abide by the rule of “any given Sunday” this year and, true to form, went to an entirely new face this round. Brad Morris took home his first RoR podium finish with both humility and overjoyment. Even though Morris is outside of the top ten plate holder running for the year, he has ridden well this season. Morris’ box finish in Race of the Rockies GTU Sunday is a testament to his consistent talent.
