PARKALGAR HONDA’S Sam Lowes is already on the outright lap record pace after Friday practice at the Buildbase Race of the Year at Mallory Park. Using his World Supersport bike, Sam clocked a 51.2 secs lap – right on the outright lap record pace set by Tom Sykes on a Superbike of 51.271 secs. His lap time was also 1.5secs faster than the existing Supersport mark set by Jay Vincent at 52.758. Close behind him is his Bogdanka PTR Honda stable mate James Ellison on a Superstock machine with slick tyres. James recorded a 51.7 secs lap but used today to get accustomed to the big bike – he normally races a Supersport bike in the World Championship. Sam said: “I went out in three sessions today, that was enough for me. I feel good. My shoulder is aching a bit now but it is no problem when I am on the bike. “I am having a good laugh and really enjoying racing here again at Mallory Park. I have not taken notice of the other racers, just got on with my own thing. It’ll be difficult to beat James on the big bike but I don’t think anyone else was as fast as me today and I know I can go faster. “It’s good fun and I’m looking forward to the race – if you are looking for something to do on Sunday get down here, it’s going to be a good race and I will be doing all I can to beat the Superbikes.” The gird currently stands at 25 invited riders, all capable of running sub 53.5 second laps and there are expected to be some further additions before Friday – that should ensure a top quality field with all of the riders capable of going for glory. Tickets for The Buildbase Race of the Year cost £26 on the gate for both days or £13 on the day for Saturday practice and qualifying and £15 on the day for race day Sunday 26th June.
