Christian IDDON, UK (MV Agusta F3 675), 1:59.878 More, from a press release issued by PTR Honda: PTR HONDA’S Danny Webb spent his first two sessions at the tenth round of the World Supersport Championship at Nurburgring in Germany learning about his new 600cc race bike and his way round the circuit. The former Moto3 star is making a big step up in class and speed with the PTR Honda and finished 31st on the provisional grid, just over three seconds away from pole position. Danny said: “The first session was good and the second one was not too bad. I put too much pressure on myself to go fast in the second session when I still have a lot to learn. Learning is what I need to concentrate on. I am only 3.4secs off the fastest time on my second ever day on a 600 and I think that’s not too bad. I will relax and try to enjoy myself a bit more tomorrow, there are lots of things we can do to improve.” PTR Honda’s Luca Marconi, now completely recovered from a broken arm, set a promising lap time to record 22nd position despite a crash near the end of the session. Stand in rider Kevin Wahr was 27th as he got to grips with his new bike and reduced his lap times by more than a second on the day. Rookies Nacho Calero and Matt Davies finished 32nd and 33rd respectively, improving their times as the day progressed. They will be looking for more tomorrow in the final practice and qualification, ahead of Sunday’s race at 1330CET. Simon Buckmaster, PTR Honda Team Manager: “Danny is continuing to progress. It was a good first session but he tried too hard in the afternoon. We have discussed this and I am sure he will improve tomorrow. “Kevin has a chance of challenging for a points scoring finish as he gets to grip with an unfamiliar bike and team. “Luca slid off at the end of the session but times are tight here and he is fully fit again. He is fighting in the group for points and we will look to make steps tomorrow. “Nacho and Matt both improved from this morning but they need to dig deep to improve more to get closer to the group racing for points.” Provisional qualifying 1. Matt Davies AUS PTR Honda CBR600RR 2m 03.011s More, from a press release issued by Pata Honda Supersport Team: Provisional second row for Zanetti Lorenzo Zanetti bounced back from a month-long summer break to take fifth place in today’s first qualifying session for the tenth round World Supersport championship event at Nürburgring in Germany today. The Italian rider is still not at 100% fitness after sustaining injuries in a crash in July but it didn’t stop the 26-year-old from setting a time of 1m59.686s at the 5.137km Nürburgring circuit, less than 0.7s from provisional pole sitter, Sam Lowes. Despite a promising free practice session this morning, Zanetti’s Pata Honda team-mate Michael van der Mark was twelfth fastest this afternoon and admitted going in the wrong direction with the settings on his Honda CBR600RR. Lorenzo Zanetti – P5 1m59.686s My condition is still not perfect and I only restarted normal training one week ago, but I like this track. I lose a lot of time in turn three but it was a good start and I think we can improve things here and in other areas of the track. I had a crash at the end of the session and I must apologise to my team because, although I was fine, the bike is not OK and I made a lot of work for them. Michael van der Mark – P12 2m00.100s This morning started really well. We tried a few different things and in the last few laps I was able to do a pretty good time. We still had some changes that we needed though, so we tried them for qualifying but we went in the wrong direction. It was difficult to ride the bike this afternoon so I think we will go back to the earlier settings to make things easier tomorrow. Pieter Breddels – technical co-ordinator Michael had a really good free practice this morning but in the afternoon things didn’t quite go his way. We changed the setting a little, but it had more of a negative effect and in the end he was twelfth and couldn’t match his free practice time. We’ll try again tomorrow.
