James ELLISON, Great Britain (Honda CBR600RR), 1:40.743 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: SAM LOWES took his first ever World Supersport Championship pole position after rain this afternoon meant that yesterday’s qualifying times were never going to be challenged at the Misano circuit in San Marino, Italy, at the fifth round of the series. Parkalgar Honda’s Miguel Praia will start from 21st after being unable to improve his time in the wet. In the dry morning practice he worked on making his Parkalgar Honda more comfortable to help with his injured shoulder. The race starts tomorrow at 1330CET. Sam: “Today has been mega. We found a lot this morning with the set up of my Parkalgar Honda and only Broc Parkes was able to match my time – but I was on a well used tyre. I think I could have gone 0.750secs faster with the improvement we found – we tried a new shock mid session and instantly it was better. I can’t wait for tomorrow, my bike’s awesome. Even if it’s wet for the race I can ride in the wet – I am very confident to be fighting for the win here, although I would prefer it to be dry.” Miguel: “We made a couple of changes in the morning on my Parkalgar Honda to make it more comfortable for my situation. With higher handlebars it is better on the bike for controlling my weight, I am weak on changing direction and braking. I only used one tyre and got quite good feedback compared to yesterday. I was confident and happy for qualifying but then the rain came. It is hard to tell how I will perform over race distance, we will know after a few laps and the Clinica is doing its best to manage my injury. I hope to be able to keep pace for race distance and realistically if we get some points then it will be a good result.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “That’s a great job by Sam and the team, we are very happy to secure our first pole position this year. Although we didn’t better the time today due to wet qualifying, I am confident we could have done so. With Sam we will be fighting for our first victory this year tomorrow. “Unfortunately for Miguel he didn’t get an opportunity to improve his time from yesterday after making some important improvements this morning. If he gets a good start then he can challenge for points and that’s what we will target.” More, from a press release issued by Bogdanka PTR Honda: BOGDANKA PTR HONDA’s James Ellison remains tenth on the World Supersport grid after a wet second qualifying at Misano on Saturday; but the British rider is confident of a strong race with a dry weather forecast for tomorrow. His teammate Pawel Szkopek will start the race from 18th but he too expects a strong showing after further improvements made in a dry, morning session. Marcin Walkowiak will start tomorrow’s Superstock 1000 race from 30th on the grid and looking for faster pace after setup changes made for Sunday. James Ellison: “We didn’t go out in the afternoon because of the rain but I went half a second faster than yesterday in the morning, using a hard tyre which makes me feel confident ahead of the race. Unfortunately it rained for the qualifying but the forecast is dry for tomorrow. We didn’t get to show our full potential yesterday because of the traffic which is disappointing but things are looking good for the race and I’m confident.” Pawel Szkopek: “It was very slippery this evening so we didn’t want to risk anything and stayed in the garage, especially with a dry race forecast. It was still a good day as we’ve improved the settings this morning and I’m feeling really good ahead of the race.” Marcin Walkowiak: “We went in the right direction this morning but then it rained in the afternoon. We have to change the bike quite a bit for tomorrow but I’m sure the changes will allow me to improve my pace and have a good race.” Simon Buckmaster Bogdanka PTR Honda Team Manager: “It is great to see Pawel get one of his best qualifying positions and we are optimistic he can compete in the points in the race. James is disappointed not to qualify higher up due to the wet weather today but we are confident with a good start he can score a season’s best result tomorrow.” More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Provisional grid positions from yesterday’s opening qualifying session at Misano in Italy became confirmed this afternoon when rain washed out the scheduled second session in preparation for tomorrow’s fifth round World Supersport championship race. Honda’s Sam Lowes will start the 22 lap race around the 4.226km Misano circuit from pole position after he and several leading riders opted to stay in their garages this afternoon. Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Fabien Foret was another who did not choose to risk crashing on the slippery Misano track and the French rider will start tomorrow’s race from the head of row two. His compatriot and team-mate, Florian Marino, put in a few wet laps today to get a feeling for the circuit in case the rain returns tomorrow. The 18-year-old had been looking forward to an opportunity to improve the setting on his Honda CBR600RR to move up from his eighth position on the grid. Fabien Foret P5 If it’s wet tomorrow, I’ll find out how the track is then. I didn’t go out today because I didn’t think that there was much to learn, not because I had a problem with the big crash I had in the wet at Phillip Island. The circumstances were very different then and I preferred not to ride this afternoon. Yesterday and this morning, I have enjoyed getting comfortable on the bike again, with a complete free range of movement. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race because on longer runs I think we are all quite close OK, I would have liked the front row but fifth is OK. Florian Marino P8 I had a new setting for this afternoon which I wanted to try but when the rain started we knew that we would have to wait until the warm-up tomorrow. I did a few laps just to get a feeling for the surface in the wet but the forecast is f or dry weather tomorrow afternoon. This morning, the bike definitely felt better than yesterday, so we wanted to make more progress. I will try to make up some positions early in the race and hopefully I can fight near the front again. Ronald ten Kate team manager Well, we didn’t really get the best out of yesterday’s first qualifying and the rain stopped us improving the positions today. For the race, however, I am positive that both riders can run with the guys on the front row and I believe there will be another intense and classic Supersport battle out there tomorrow afternoon. More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Front Row Starts For Kawasaki WSS Duo WSS, Misano, Republic of San Marino, 11 June 2011 David Salom and Broc Parkes approached Misano full of confidence and it has proven to be well placed in qualifying, with David third on the grid and Broc fourth. The first day of qualifying was held in dry conditions but today the heavens opened and the final qualifying session was held under full wet conditions. That means that the final grid positions were based on Friday’s performance, not today’s, rewarding the quick set-up work the Provec Motocard.com team had done on day one. Sunday’s race will be held over 22-laps and conditions are expected to be dry, which would be the ideal conditions for a field which numbered 37 in qualifying. Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki team riders Massimo Roccoli and Vittorio Iannuzzo finished ninth and 19th respectively, with Roccoli just over a second off pole man Sam Lowes. David Salom: “A qualifying place on the front row is not so bad at all. I would have liked to have had a dry session today so that I could try some other things but for tomorrow we should be able to have a good race. I have a strong race pace and I am happy with the work we have done for the tyre choice. We had a good day yesterday and if it is dry we should be in good shape tomorrow. I am alongside Broc so we have made a good team effort.” Broc Parkes: “We are quite happy today and we will check the suspension set-up again tomorrow in warm-up. A front row for David as well, so I it is not a bad way to start. We made some changes to the bike before the opening qualifying session and I feel a lot better, more comfortable and faster. It would have been good to have some dry track time to fine-tune today but we have warm-up to work with tomorrow.” More, from a press release issued by Yamaha ParkinGO Team: Chaz Davies will start from second position of the grid after a wet second qualifying in the Misano World Supersport Championship. The weather was mixed during the second day, being mostly sunny during the free practice which allowed the team to work a bit more for tomorrow’s race. On the second qualifying though the rain made it through. The british rider and the team decided not to risk and stay on the box as the track was quite slippery and the chances of a wet race forecast for tomorrow are very low. Giuliano Rovelli will start from seventh position for the “Two countries Cup” being quite confident of doing a good race after an excellent 1.43.6 done this morning during the free Supersport practice. Chaz Davies – Yamaha YZF R6 #7 – ” I am quite satisfied about this morning dry session where we tried a few different solutions for tomorrow’s race. I know it will be a tough 22 laps and it promises a nice fight but I have to think about the championship so I will try to get as many points as I can.”
