Corey Sarros and Benny Solis, Jr. each won three races during the Pirelli WERA West Sportsman Series Presented by Lucas Oil season-opening event January 25 at Auto Club Speedway, in Fontana, California.

Sarros, riding his Pirelli-shod Shades of Vail-sponsored Suzuki GSX-R1000s, won the Formula One Expert, A Superbike Expert and A Superstock Expert races. Sarros took the lead early in Formula One and A Superbike and came home the victor over Marcel Irnie each time.

Sarros got a bad start in the A Superstock race, and Irnie jumped out to an initial lead. Sarros made up some of his early deficit, but Irnie crossed the finish line first at the end of the six-lap sprint. After the race, however, Irnie was disqualified for having an aftermarket front brake master cylinder on his Mobi/Irnie Racing BMW S1000RR. Irnie’s disqualification promoted Melissa Paris from third to second on her Dunlop-fitted MPH Racing Aprilia RSV4 Factory.

Solis collected first-place finishes in the C Superstock Expert, C Superbike Expert and B Superstock Expert races on his Dunlop-backed Team H35 Yamaha YZF-R6. Sahar Zvik, who rode a 636cc Kawasaki ZX-6R, finished second each time.

Daniel Costilla turned 15-years-old on Saturday, and on Sunday the teen took narrow, come-from-behind victories in the Kenny Anderson Formula Three and Formula Two Expert races on his Dunlop-fitted Revidalize Honda RS125. Gabriel “G3” Hernandez, III, led each race from the start, but Costilla passed 14-year-old Hernandez on the last lap of each race to take the wins.
