Schedule Of Events Released For Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix

INDIANAPOLIS The Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Aug. 27-29 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway features an exciting weekend for motorcycle racing enthusiasts, on and off the track. A full schedule of events is planned during the third annual motorcycle racing event at IMS, including more than 11 hours of overall on-track time for the best riders in the world on Practice Day, Friday, Aug. 27, Qualifying Day, Saturday, Aug. 28 and Race Day, Sunday, Aug. 29. The event weekend starts Friday, Aug. 27 with the popular Pit Walkabout from 9-10:45 a.m. at IMS. Fans can get an up-close look at the exotic prototype motorcycles raced in MotoGP and the high-tech machines raced in Moto2 and 125cc. Many crews are working on the bikes during the Walkabout, giving fans a close-up look at the intricate motorcycles. Other activities Friday morning before on-track action starts include the Cycle World Seminar from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and the Riders For Health charity auction from 10:30 a.m.-noon, both on the SPEED Stage located in the IMS infield. Guests for the Cycle World Seminar include legendary 1993 500cc World Champion Kevin Schwantz, American Moto2 riders Roger Lee Hayden and Kenny Noyes, and more. Many top MotoGP stars will auction team apparel and other items to benefit Riders For Health, a charity that works to ensure all health workers in Africa have access to reliable transportation so they can reach the most isolated people with regular and predictable health care. The newest addition to the racing lineup at the Red Bull Indianapolis GP, the USGPRU Moriwaki MD250H class, will get the on-track action underway on the 16-turn, 2.621-mile road course from noon-12:25 p.m. Friday. Then all three World Championship classes MotoGP, Moto2 and 125cc each will have one-hour practice sessions Friday afternoon, starting with 125cc at 12:40 p.m. MotoGP superstars Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa, and American stars Nicky Hayden, Ben Spies and Colin Edwards will get their first laps of the weekend from 1:55-2:55 p.m. Friday, followed by the exciting new Moto2 class from 3:10-4:10 p.m. Two 30-minute qualifying sessions for the USGPRU Moriwaki MD250H series, featuring top young riders from throughout North and South America, will conclude the day’s track activity at 4:25 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. The Saturday schedule is packed with more than five hours of on-track time among the four classes, with practice, qualifying and racing. Morning practices start at 9 a.m., with MotoGP on track at 9:55 a.m. The high-speed quest for the pole in exciting qualifying sessions starts at 1 p.m. for 125cc, 1:55 p.m. for MotoGP and 3:10 p.m. for Moto2. The first USGPRU Moriwaki MD250H race is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Fans will want to stay at IMS after the USGPRU race to participate in Yamaha rider chats with MotoGP superstars Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Ben Spies and Colin Edwards at 5:30 p.m. on the SPEED Stage. Race Day action kick-starts quickly with warm-up sessions for all three World Championship classes: 125cc at 8:40 a.m., Moto2 at 9:10 a.m. and MotoGP at 9:40 a.m. Racing starts with the second and final USGPRU Moriwaki MD250H race at 10:20 a.m. A live concert featuring Crash, the band led by Yamaha World Superbike rider James Toseland, will warm up the crowd from 11 a.m.-noon on the SPEED Stage for a full afternoon of racing. The 125cc race starts at noon, followed by the Moto2 race at 1:15 p.m. The featured MotoGP race starts at 3 p.m., with American Nicky Hayden aiming for his third consecutive podium finish at this event and superstar Fiat Yamaha teammates Rossi and Lorenzo trying to become the first two-time winner of the Red Bull Indianapolis GP. Motorcycle enthusiasts also can browse and purchase the latest gear and aftermarket accessories all three days at the Vendor Marketplace in the Gasoline Alley Garages. Enthusiasts also can check out the newest models of off-road and street motorcycles from major manufacturers at the Manufacturers’ Area in the IMS infield.
