Monterey County Commission on Disabilities Gives Special Recognition to SCRAMP/Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca MONTEREY, Calif. – For nearly two decades the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) has offered special services for its disabled spectators designed for ease of accessibility. For these efforts the Monterey County Commission on Disabilities recently awarded the organization special recognition. “We are honored to have received this recognition,” said Gill Campbell, CEO/general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “SCRAMP’s services have served as a model for other race facilities throughout the nation and local sporting events such as the California International Airshow and AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am.” In order to provide the best possible access, disabled patrons driving to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for an event have several options for parking. Guests holding Blue 1, Blue 2 or Red 8 parking passes have a disabled area in their respective sections. Additionally, there is always free parking available, within a special disabled parking area, in the Purple 10 section. Once parked, disabled spectators simply need to inform the uniformed parking attendants to their need for the free shuttle to and from the parking areas which is provided by the Monterey Bay Disabled Veterans Association. For the largest annual event, the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, disabled patrons do not need to drive to the race track; they can take advantage of shuttle service from California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) where they can find a disabled parking area and special ADA buses for transport to and from the event. Disabled guests simply need to ask the parking attendants to be directed to the handicap area upon arrival at CSUMB. While at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca disabled visitors will find that facilities including the ticket office and souvenir store feature ADA compliant ramps. Additionally, Pit Lane Suites and the Red Bull Energy Center feature elevators for ease of use. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was established in 1957. The world-renowned raceway has been operated since its inception by the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), a not-for-profit 501c(4) corporation. Each race season, SCRAMP donates its net proceeds to the volunteer groups that help organize the races.
