Shelina Moreda testing with Tuned Racing and coaching from Steve Rapp

Tuned Racing has Shelina Moreda testing with them in the off-season. They attended Chuckwalla Valley Raceway last week and have more tests planned for later this month. Shelina rode a Tuned Racing built Yamaha R6. Steve Rapp was riding with Moreda as well, there to help Moreda with coaching.

This was Shelina’s first time on a Tuned Racing bike and also her first time riding at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, aside from some commercial shots she did during a Yamaha commercial shoot there earlier this year. They rode the counter-clockwise course with Track Xperience trackday provider.

There were also videographers accompanying Moreda during this testing session. They were carrying out interviews and filming some special behind the scenes documentary, on this female racer, for the AMA Ohio.

Shelina was very happy with the bikes and the team. “This bike felt great from the start. With Steve Rapp’s help, we made some great progress on the suspension adjustments. Mike Pond, the team owner, asked me why I didn’t have him change more on the levers, controls and whatnot. I adjusted the levers… and everything else just felt great. The bike worked good and I was able to focus on improving. These Tuned Racing bikes are awesome bikes”.

Rapp has helped Moreda in the past, when they raced on the Vance & Hines Harley Davidsons, and they shared a race team briefly when Shelina first raced Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“I’ve always looked up to Steve Rapp” says Moreda, “had his posters on my wall and he was definitely one of my inspirations to start racing. He’s a cool guy and has been kindof a mentor for me for a couple of years now. Having him personally coach me to be a better rider is a pretty amazing opportunity for me. I’m doing my best to be a sponge”.

It was encouraging to Shelina to see these three plans coming to light; Testing with Tuned, Training from Steve, and the AMA video filming. She looks forward to riding the bikes again, and is looking forward to more talks with Tuned Racing about the 2015 season. She says “MotoAmerica with the AMA and FIM is going to be an excellent new start for us road racers, the fans, and our sponsors, and I’m working hard at doing everything possible to improve and be a strong asset to a new team and sponsors”.
