Show Us Your Rides, Part 14: Draik Jay Beauchamp

This off-season we’re running a series showing your motorcycles. Not just your road racing bikes, but your streetbikes, motocross bikes, dirt bikes, pit bikes, mini bikes, trials bikes, land-speed bikes, drag bikes, speedway bikes, whatever you’ve got. If you have more than one bike, send photos of them all–alone or with you! Send in-focus bike photos (as jpeg files) along with the make, model and year of each bike and your name, city and state, plus the name of the photographer, to [email protected]. By sending us the photos, you are certifying that you own the rights to the photos and are giving us permission to feature them on roadracingworld.com. They may be posted on roadracingworld.com during slow news days.

Seen here in our 14th installment are photos sent in by WERA racer Draik Jay Beauchamp, age 14, of Knoxville, Tennessee, where he lives with his dad Kurtiss and mother Alicia and supports his road racing by cutting grass, holding fund-raisers, selling T-shirts and doing odd jobs. “I wanted to send you a picture of my ride,” wrote Beauchamp. “It is my 2003 Suzuki SV650. I worked hard and bought it myself! In this picture, I’m doing some off-season testing at Road Atlanta at a Sportbike Track Time event. The picture was taken by 129Photos.com and I do have permission to use it. I plan on running my bike in the Lightweight classes of the WERA Southeast (Region) and (WERA) Nationals. I am stepping up to the SV from the Ninja 250 I was riding the last two seasons.”

Beauchamp also sent in a photo of his pit bike, and wrote “I hope it doesn’t make people too jealous…It’s a 1983 Honda Aero 80. It just rolled (the odometer) over to 0 miles at the STT event I was at when I was riding my SV in the other picture. Dad and I are rebuilding the motor this off-season, and we are looking forward to it running like new. In the picture, I am getting ready to take my Madre on a ride around the neighborhood. The Ninja sold at (the WERA) GNF (at Barber in October) so this and the SV are the only bikes I have now. I hope to be able to get on an RC390 this season, though. About the SV, I feel good on it and really look forward to getting some races in on it! I love the extra power over the Ninja!”

Unfortunately, Beauchamp subsequently reported that his pit bike suffered a terminal (lower end) engine failure shortly after he and his dad rebuilt the top end and his dad took it out for a test ride!
