Shreve Awarded #1 Plate At ASMA Awards Banquet In New Mexico

© 2005, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc. From a press release issued By Zac Seasly, for ASMA.

Mike Shreve Jr. was the star at the 2005 Arroyo Seco Motorcyclist Association (ASMA) awards banquet, held December 3rd in Deming, NM yet he was not the only star of the evening. With multi-time AMA Superbike champion Doug Chandler in attendance, ASMA not only awarded championships in each of the racing classes, but also gave out awards of recognition to the racers and non-racers that have contributed to the continued success of ASMA. Shreve took home 5 class championships, including the coveted Formula Arroyo championship, as well as winning the overall expert points chase. Formula Arroyo is the premier, run-what-you-brung ASMA class, and the top ten competition numbers for the next season are based on the Formula Arroyo results. Having worn the number one plate in 2003 and 2004, Shreve will again wear the number 1 in 2006. Hunter Shingler received the number 2 plate after a season of impressive gains in speed, and Tom Savoca rounded out the Formula Arroyo championship rostrum. In the Formula Amateur championship, Phil Neuzil ended up on top after a calculated season focused on this specific goal. With the fastest amateur classes ever at ASMA, many new experts will be looking to make their mark in the top classes in 2006. In addition to the championships, ASMA presented a series of special awards based solely on the rider’s votes. Hunter Shingler won the Most Improved Expert award and Sergio Sanchez won Most Improved Amateur. Mike Shreve Sr. won Sportsman of the Year for the second year in a row, showing again that one does not need to be a racer to be a sportsman. The Shop of the Year award went to Edge Motorsports in El Paso, TX for their continued support of the ASMA series.
