Round 5 of the Law Tigers’ Sandia Motorcycle Roadracing Championships hosted by SMRI was held at Sandia Motor Speedway on Sunday, September 25th, 2016.

Mikey Shreve clinched the Unlimited Grand Prix and Expert Open Superbike championships and holds a commanding lead in the Formula 1000 class as well going into the final round of the season. Mikey was unchallenged in these three races despite the presence of normally competitive riders Kelcey Walker, Chazz Neiderman, and Kevin Gibson. Mikey is now entitled to run the #1 plate at SMRI events for the 2017 season!

Dylan Beck also cemented championships in the Novice GTO and Amateur GTU classes and holds wide leads in Novice GTU and Amateur GTO. Beck and fellow Novice racer Randy Bailey have already been advised that they will compete as Expert racers in 2017 and will be allowed to enter Expert races in the final round of 2016 if they choose.

Edda Tully clinched the Formula Femme championship after winning her fifth consecutive event this year. The real race was for second between veteran racer Kim Prichard on her Daytona 675 and Honda 600 mounted Rachel Buser. Buser won by a nose setting a personal best ever lap time of 0:59.7 in the penultimate lap to make the pass on Prichard leaving turn 7. Hats off to Rachel for a masterful performance!

Chazz Neiderman clinched the championships in Expert Middleweight Superbike after an excellent performance on Sunday, and in Modern Vintage by his dominating performances all year. He beat Kelcey Walker to the line by a whopping 26 seconds and holds a 30 point lead heading into the final round. However, even if Kelcey wins and Chazz fails to compete in round 6, Neiderman still wins the championship by virtue of race wins!

Long time AHRMA racer Dennis Parrish holds an insurmountable lead in all four Historic Vintage classes and also holds a 10 point lead in the Super Vintage Class heading into the ultimate round of the 2016 season.

Steve Brown is the champion for both Amateur 250 Supersport and Amateur 500 Supersport classes this year. Brown, a multi-time AHRMA #1 plate holder is looking forward to competing in the historic vintage classes as well as Supersport classes in the 2017 season.

Finally, Greg Streosky is SMRI’s 2016 Amateur Thunderbike championship after his win on Sunday. Greg holds a 30 point lead and holds the edge in the tie breaker over nearest competitor Scott Cloninger heading into the final round.

Round 6 of the Law Tigers’ Sandia Motorcycle Roadracing Championship will be held on October 16th at Sandia Motor Speedway. For more information please visit www.smri-racing.org.
