Siglin Wins AFM Formula Pacific Race At Infineon Raceway

The Northern California racing contingent was glad to be back on track at Infineon Raceway last weekend, with last month’s round of racing at Thunderhill cancelled as a result of heavy rains. While there were a number of great races throughout the weekend, one of the closest finishes of the event took place in the Bay Area Rider’s Forum Formula Pacific race. For most of the race, Ricky Corey held the lead on his Yamaha R1, with Chris Siglin in second on his BMW S1000RR searching for an opportunity to take the lead. With several strong moves on the brakes, Brian Parriott remained in striking distance on his Aprilia RSV4 in third position, while Randolph struggled to rejoin the leaders after running at the front early in the race on his BMW S1000RR.

The race boiled down to a last lap, final turn showdown, as Siglin took the lead from Corey with a strong move on the brakes into Turn 11, barely winning the drag race to the line to take the win. Corey finished second, with Parriott third.

“The guy who makes this bike get around the track so well is Phil Douglas at Aftershocks,” said Parriott in the winner’s circle. “He makes that thing just handle on a rail, it’s the only way I can keep up with those guys and that high horsepower. When I get some horsepower one of these days we can have some more fun. The engine is 100% stock, it’s all suspension. So those guys who say you need horsepower to win out here nope. Go see Phil!”

Despite coming up just short of his second Formula Pacific victory of the season, Corey still seemed happy with his second place finish.

“I felt strong on the brakes, but Siglin was strong too especially into Turn 11,” explained Corey. “This R1 is amazing on the brakes, it’s an awesome bike all around. I definitely have to thank my dad, Eric Corey, for helping me out so much, as well as San Jose Yamaha, they’ve been backing me for 4-5 years now.”

Siglin’s weekend was filled with ups and downs, overcoming a crash in Saturday practice to take his first Formula Pacific victory on his BMW S1000RR.

“I’m just on a super high right now yesterday I didn’t think I’d be in the top 5, maybe top 10 to be honest,” explained Siglin. “I know one of my strengths is the start, and this bike is probably the best starting bike I’ve ever had. I figured if I could latch onto those guys at the start, I could learn a thing or two, and sure enough I did. They give me a lot of inspiration to push myself, where this bike hasn’t been yet. Pirelli has been working with me for the past few years, and I didn’t have a single issue with the tires all day. And Fastline Cycles Alex and Ray Perez, those guys busted their butts for me yesterday, I can’t thank them enough!”

The next round of AFM action is scheduled for August 27 & 28 at Thunderhill Raceway.
