Cameron BEAUBIER (KTM), 1:53.382 More, from a press release issued by KTM: Qualifying crash dampens Marquez’s bid for front row at Catalyuna Red Bull KTM Moto Sport’s 16-year-old factory rider Marc Marquez saw his chances dampened for a front row grid position ahead of the 125 cc GP of Catalunya when he crashed 15 minutes into the single qualifying session for his home GP. Marc, who now starts in the third row on Sunday, slid off the track on the approach to turn 10 on the famous Spanish circuit that has hosting top motorcycle racing since 1992. He rejoined qualifying about two thirds of the way through the 40 minute session and finished twelfth, just 1.668 seconds off the winning pace of countryman Julian Simon. Despite the crash the young Spanish factory rider is still upbeat for tomorrow’s race. Marc Marquez: “In the morning we found a good set-up but it was not perfect so in the afternoon we tried to change it a bit. Then I tried to push quite hard the first time I was out so we could see if there had been improvements. I was feeling good on the bike but then I crashed and I don’t really know why. Because of this, we lost some time and we weren’t able to try out all the ideas we had for the set up. We’ll try to make some more changes in tomorrow’s warm-up and I am sure it will be good for the race. I feel confident about the race because I have been good in all the practices so far.” Also onboard for the Red Bull KTM Moto Sport factory team were Cameron Beaubier of the USA and Sturla Fagerhaug of Norway. Beaubier, also 16, rejoins the team after an injury pause when he sustained a small wrist fracture at the Le Mans, France circuit when he crashed in wet and rainy conditions. He finished in place 22 in the qualifying and expressed some disappointment. Cameron is confident for an improvement in tomorrow’s race. Cameron Beaubier: “I wasn’t good in qualifying. I couldn’t put a good lap together, I made many mistakes in sections of the circuit, I couldn’t hold the line and I got caught up in traffic. But I am aware of where I made the mistakes and it will be okay for tomorrow. My bike is running well, except in the last two corners where there was a little bit of chattering. I didn’t have any problems with my hand and if I get everything right it should be good for the race. I’m looking forward to some interesting fights. I am positive that I can learn from my mistakes and I’ll be able to improve on my times quite a bit. Fagerhaug was granted his second wild card ride for the factory team. He is currently contesting the Red Bull Rookies Cup and he finished twenty eighth in qualifying. Sturla Fagerhaug: I am going okay. Although my position was not very good I’m learning with every lap. I improved on my times and I feel better on the bike and with working with my new team. I hope to learn some more in the warm-up and of course I’ll do my best in the race. My aim is to improve my lap times and position and to learn as much as possible. Riders had to contend with an air temperature of 37 degrees Celsius with the track temperature into the 50 degrees.
