Sandia Motorcycle Roadracing Inc (SMRI) in Albuquerque NM has added a 250cc SuperSport class to its list of eligible race classes for the 2012 season. The class is primarily aimed at the popular Kawasaki EX250, but will also allow the Honda VTR 250 (1988-90) and the CBR250R models as well. The class will run under Supersport rules, so changes to the exhaust system, intake system (stock carbs must be retained) and suspension (replacement rear shock and modified stock forks) are all allowed. There will be no internal engine modifications allowed and bikes must use the stock wheels and brake rotors/calipers. The newer 2008+ EX250 wheels and forks may be retro fitted to any year of EX250. The club hopes that this new class will expand the popularity of the EX250 class bikes and allow for some close racing on a limited budget. SMRI runs races at the Sandia Motor Speedway in Albuquerque from April thru October and also runs a monthly trackday program. Additional information about SMRI is available at www.smri-racing.org
