In a major boost for the British Superbike Championship, SMT Honda are delighted to announce that there’ll be back on the grid for the final two rounds of the series with Karl Harris on board. After a meeting on Monday, the team have secured funding from sorrymate.com boss Fergus Dalgarno, who already supports Jenny Tinmouth in the British Supersport Cup, and will race under the joint ‘sorrymate.com/SMT Honda’ banner. The Lancashire-based team have been forced to sit out the last three rounds at Brands, Cadwell Park and Croft and have working feverishly hard to get back on the grid but whilst recent efforts have come to nothing, Dalgarno’s commitment to the squad means they are now able to return and are subsequently looking forward to the final two rounds. Meanwhile, with original rider Jason O’Halloran now sidelined with a broken wrist due to a practice crash at Croft, team owner Robin Croft has turned to Karl Harris to campaign the Honda Fireblade for the rest of the year. The Sheffield rider, recently released by Hydrex Honda, had a weekend to forget at Croft on the Node 4 Yamaha but knows the Honda machine inside out and is keen to show the racing world what he still has to offer. Speaking about the deal, Croft said: “We’re all absolutely delighted to be back on the British Superbike grid and are indebted to Fergus Dalgarno and sorrymate.com for their financial support which has allowed us to return. It’s been hard work since our last outing at Mallory Park and we’ve explored a number of avenues to continue competing but it’s only now that we have the solid financial footing to do so. As for Karl, he knows the bike inside out and what we’ve been running all year is very similar to the bike he was riding at Hydrex Honda we’ve had on-going support during the year from Shaun Muir and Mick Shanley and Karl’s desperate to get back on a Honda so it’s a hungry team and a hungry rider that will be heading to Silverstone. We ‘re all itching to get back and are planning to end the season with a flourish.” The penultimate round of the British Superbike Championship takes place at Silverstone on September 25-27.
