World Supersport Championship Round 13: Magny Cours, France Tuesday 2 October 2007 King Kenan The 2007 World Supersport Championship draws to an end this weekend after a thrilling season that has seen some of the most competitive riding in the history of the series. HANNspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuolglu has been at the forefront, storming to the top of the standings at round one and staying put for the entire season. The current Champion has fast become a legend in the World Supersport class by securing 11 podium finishes from 12 front row starts, including seven race victories. This weekend, Sofuoglu will be aiming to seal his status by breaking the record for the highest number of wins in a single season. His current tally is equal to that of former Ten Kate Honda rider Karl Muggeridge, but a victory at Magny Cours on Sunday will see Sofuoglu secure the accolade. Team-mate Sébastien Charpentier is determined to get a good result at his home track after a season plagued by bad luck. The Frenchman has an excellent track record at the 4.411km circuit and secured pole position and the race win in 2006. He is hoping to equal this achievement and end the 2007 season on a positive note. Ronald ten Kate, Team Manager: “The main goals this weekend are for Kenan to break the record for the most wins in a season and for Sébastien to do well in front of his home crowd. However, we are still carrying out a lot of development on the CBR600RR ahead of 2008 and this will also be a focus at Magny Cours. Last year we saw a one-two podium finish from Sébastien and Kenan and it would be fantastic to see a repeat of this for the final round of 2007.” Kenan Sofuoglu: “After winning the race at Valleunga I cannot wait to get to Magny Cours. I now have seven victories and I am so determined to get the last win of the season. I want to set the record of securing the most wins before I leave the series.I am so happy that I have been able to secure a sixth World Supersport Championship win for HANNspree Ten Kate Honda. I owe a lot to the team and I have to give big thanks all of the guys for their support and hard work this year. Now I just have to give them a final gift of an eighth race win this weekend.” Sébastien Charpentier: “For sure, this season has been one of the most difficult of my career. It started badly with the injury at Donington and I haven’t been able to pick it up. I have had some great results in qualifying and the team has been working incredibly hard to help me. I just hope that I can give them a good result this weekend. I love Magny Cours – it’s my home circuit and I have done well there in the past so let’s see what happens on Sunday.”
