Bastien CHESAUX, Switzerland (Honda CBR600RR), 2:04.156 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Parkalgar Honda rises to the challenge PARKALGAR HONDA’S Eugene Laverty is provisionally fifth and Miguel Praia 13th on the grid for Sunday’s 11th round of the World Supersport Championship at the Nurburgring in Germany after a frustrating day held them back from showing their true potential. There is another practice and qualifying session tomorrow before the race takes place at 1330 local time on Sunday, September 5th. To follow the team visit the website at Parkalgar Honda. Eugene: “We were fastest in the morning session and had a really good direction for the afternoon. The lap times were coming easy and we were very positive but then the qualifying session turned into one of ‘those sessions’ where nothing seems to come together. I set my fastest lap early on a used tyre then had an electrical problem that was fixed. I then had a slow speed crash, changed bike and the front tyre gave me no feel. I changed that but by then the rear tyre was shot and after that I struggled to get into my rhythm on either bike. It’s a case of lessons learnt and looking forward to tomorrow, we know we can run at the front and just want to put this session behind us.” Miguel: “I didn’t get a single fast lap in the morning thanks to an electrical problem that took time to locate and fix but it was important that we did because the Parkalgar Honda is good and showed its speed in the afternoon qualifying. It was a good session in the afternoon and all I need now is more laps and time on the bike. The Nurburgring is a long lap and takes a lot of learning and as long as I get track time we will improve, there is more to come. I like this circuit and the bike is very strong so realistically think we can challenge for the second row.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “Eugene had a slow speed crash mid qualifying and that lost him momentum. There was no injury or damage and at the end he was looking good for second place but lost time on his last sector to finish fifth. Miguel had an electrical problem in the morning that meant he effectively lost the session. Given that, he rode very well in qualifying to take 13th. It’s been a frustrating day but we are rising to the challenge and expect a lot more tomorrow the weather forecast is good so we should be able to improve both riders.” More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Kenan Sofuoglu took the provisional pole position slot in today’s opening qualifying session for Sunday’s 11th round World Supersport championship race at Nurburgring in Germany. The Turkish rider had threatened to improve on his fastest time of 1m59.276s, before crashing unhurt at the slow final corner of the 5.137kmn Nurburgring circuit relatively early in this afternoon’s 45-minute qualifying session. However, none of his rivals was able to improve on the time, despite Sofuoglu spending the remainder of the session on his spare Honda CBR600RR machine. His chief rival in the points standings, Eugene Laverty, was fifth fastest today. Three places further back on the provisional second row is Sofuoglu’s Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Michele Pirro, making his return to action after crashing at Brno in the Czech Republic in July. The 24-year-old Italian was still suffering from a lack of strengt h in his right hand after breaking his wrist in the crash. However, he is confident of an improvement tomorrow with a change of settings on his machine. Kenan Sofuoglu P1 1m59.276s Today in the morning the set up was not good enough and in the afternoon we tried a new idea on an old tyre. I was able to make quite fast lap times with that and I crashed on a really good lap. Unfortunately, my spare bike had a completely different set up so I was not able to match the times from before. Tomorrow I know which set up we’ll go with and I believe I can improve maybe by a second for a fast lap time. Even today, without the crash, I could have probably been half a second faster. We can still improve the bike in some areas and we’ll work on that for tomorrow, and hope that the track’s grip levels are a little better than today, which was not so good. What I can see right now is that my consistent lap times are fast t oo, so with some improvements tomorrow and a good grid position, I can be quite fast in the race. Michele Pirro P8 2m00.243s I have a little bit of pain from my wrist today but the bigger problem is no power in my hand. I try to stop the bike but the bike doesn’t stop! I didn’t use any anti-inflammatories today to see how it would feel and it’s a little bit difficult in the first corner and the hairpin at the back of the circuit, which are both downhill places where you must brake very hard. I like the bike though and I hope tomorrow will be better. The feeling is not perfect but not so bad. The big problem is with my body, so we’ll try to find a different set up here to deal with that. If I use the same set up as before it will be difficult. Before I used a lot more brake compared to Kenan, but today it’s a lot less! Ronald ten Kate team manager We have some mixed feelings in the garage this evening. Kenan has obviously had a good start to the weekend and, apart from a small crash with his number one bike, we’re happy with the set-up as it is. But, of course, there are still some improvements we can make to the machine. Michele is still suffering a lot from his Brno injuries not so much from the pain as from a lack of strength in his hand at the moment. We’re hoping that some overnight rest and some attention from the Clinica Mobile will help him to move forward, so let’s see what happens tomorrow. More, from a press release issued by ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing: Spaniard David Salom set the second fastest time to score a very good result in the opening day of the Supersport round held at Nurburgring, establishing himself as one of the possible contenders for the race. Despite the good performance, Salom is convinced he can improve and is confident for tomorrow. Frenchman Matthieu Lagrive put in a positive performance to post the ninth quickest time of the day and expectations are high for him as well. On the other hand, Chaz Davies was slowed down by a crash without consequences, but was able to finish eleventh at his debut on the German track, while Iannuzzo focused on finding a good setup which should enable him to find a good feeling with the bike in qualifying tomorrow. DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 2nd in 1’59.277 : “Everything went smoothly today, but I still have to change the way I approach the last section of the track, where I lose all the time to Sofuoglu. I’m confident I can do just as well tomorrow, when I’ll try to be more effective in the last few corners”. MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 9th in 2’00.535 : “I posted a good time, but I’m not satisfied with the setup yet. I think I can do much better when I have full confidence on the setup. We’re on the right path nonetheless and hopefully will qualify in the first two rows”. CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 11th in 2’01.073 : “It’s my first time at Nurburgring, so I focused on learning the track and on finding a good base setup. By the end of the session we didn’t make the right choice for the fork and so we must make a big step forward tomorrow”. VITTORIO IANNUZZO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 15th in 2’01.598 : “I approached practice in a different way and managed to do a pretty good job. However, I still have some issues on the back end when exiting the corner and have to work on which trajectory to take in the first corner. My goal is to do well in warm up and get a good starting position in qualifying practice”.
