Mahi Racing Team India’s Kenan Sofuoglu remained on top of the timesheets at Phillip Island courtesy of his morning’s blistering lap to finish once again ahead of Dutchman Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Supersport), who managed to break into the 1’33s barrier in the afternoon session, and Russian Vladimir Leonov (MV Agusta RC – Yakhnich Motorsport). Fourth place Jack Kennedy (CIA Insurance Honda) went off at turn 2 after 26 laps – and was transferred to the hospital in Melbourne to undergo x-rays for a suspected broken right ankle.
