WorldSSP: Sofuoglu Tops Day 1

Reigning Champion fastest in first practice sessions, Caricasulo close

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing rider Kenan Sofuoglu went quickest on Day 1 at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, with the Turk laying down a marker in FP2 to lead the charge to Tissot-Superpole 2. Rookie Federico Caricasulo was second quickest in the combined times after also impressing during the morning session, with the Italian rookie flying the flag in preparation for his second home Round.

Sofuoglu’s rookie teammate Randy Krummenacher, who is a veteran of the circuit, was fastest in the morning before ending the day third quickest on the combined timesheets as he pushes to close down Sofuoglu in the title fight. MV Agusta Reparto Corse rider Jules Cluzel continued his return to the top echelons of WorldSSP in P4 overall, ahead of Honda rider PJ Jacobsen, who counts Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli as a favourite in his quest for his first victory of the season. The group of title contenders all circulated within around 3 tenths of each other, proving a tantalizing preview of the Race that could be in store on Sunday.

GRT Racing Team rider Gino Rea was P6 overall on his MV Agusta as the Brit put in a lap just quicker than another Italian in the form of Christian Gamarino, who ended Day 1 in P7. Alessandro Zaccone flew the flag for San Carlo Team Italia at a home Round for both rider and team, with the young FIM Europe Supersport Cup rider proving the fastest of the ESS field in P8, ahead of fellow ESS rider Ilya Mikhalchik. Roberto Rolfo locked out the top ten at his home Round, followed by compatriots Alex Baldolini and Ayrton Badovini as the local favourites battle it out for home glory.

The top ten from Day 1 now go through to WorldSSP Tissot-Superpole 2 at Misano, with the grid spots decided on Saturday at 11:30 local time (GMT +2) before the WorldSSP Race on Sunday 19th June at 11:20.

P1 – Kenan Sofuoglu @kenan_sofuoglu

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing

“Today actually wasn’t easy. Maybe we don’t have a very good setup or the tyre…I don’t know. I didn’t try to be fastest, I tried to set up my bike and find the correct gearing and find the right setup for my race simulation. That wasn’t bad, my simulation was quite constant and I’ll push myself and the team to improve the bike for tomorrow. Today we were fastest but I believe the lap time can be better than what we did today.”

SOLID 4TH PLACE FOR CLUZEL IN WORLDSSP AT MISANO, WHILE CAMIER GOT THE TOP15 IN WORLDSBK

Team MV Agusta Reparto Corse is back in Misano Adriatico, for the Italian Round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, second home race in 2016 season for the Italian squad.

WorldSBK – FP1, FP2

After the outstanding 4th and 5th place got in Donington in the last race, Leon Camier arrived in Italy to confirm the excellent trend of this 2016 season, both for the rider and the team.

The actions on track began, as usual, by the FP1 in the morning, where Leon Camier secured the 17th time, 2 seconds far from the leader. In the next Free Practice session the British rider lowered its own best time by more than 1 second, getting the 15th time on the combined timesheet, and entering the Superpole1 scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 local time.

WorldSSP – FP1, FP2

The Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” was also the venue of the first two WorldSSP Free Practice sessions, with Jules Cluzel who started really fast his weekend, ending in 5th position the FP1 heat. In FP2 Cluzel and his team continued the set-up work on the MV Agusta F3 675 and conquered the 4th position with a 1’39.052 lap time, just over 0,1s from the top rider, entering right into the tomorrow’s Superpole2 (11:55).

It was a more complicated situation for the other rider of the team, Lorenzo Zanetti, that due to some technical issues rode two difficult FP sessions. Tomorrow the Italian rider will start his comeback from the Superpole1, scheduled for 11.30 Italian time.

Leon Camier #2 WorldSBK – It was little bit a difficult day to be honest, since the bike setting wasn’t so particularly strong here as I expected. We made a good improvement in the second session and hopefully we can make a big step forward tomorrow and come out with a better setting.

Jules Cluzel #16 WorldSSP – We definitely started in the right way, doing a very good job from the first session. This afternoon we tried to improve even more but the way we chose wasn’t the right one. What really matters now is that we have quite clear ideas on the work we have to do tomorrow to stay on top.

Lorenzo Zanetti #87 WorldSSP – I can not be satisfied with this first day here at Misano, because the 25th place is certainly far from my goals and my potential. We need to understand exactly which is the area where we suffer more and fix this situation as soon as possible, because we can definitely do better then this. I am fully confident in my team.
