Benny Solis was the fastest rider by a wide margin during the final qualifying session for the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport at cold and rainy Miller Motorsports Park Sunday. Solis’ time of 2:12.530 while riding his Roadracingworld.com Erion Honda CBR600RR was over four seconds faster than the best time turned by any other rider, but it was the 1:58.384 the 16-year-old Californian did during the dry provisional qualifying session that ended up earning pole position. “We have a West and East division in SuperSport,” explained AMA Pro Racing Director of Communications John Szymanski, “and there are two races in the West division that are single [-race] events, here and at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. So to balance out the points-scoring opportunities, because all of the East division races are doubleheaders, we designated qualifying [at these two West events] to receive points as if it were a race. So this will be scored as if it were a race result.” “Yeah, it feels good because I knew we were going to have bad weather today and that [qualifying] was going to be like a race,” said Solis. “Yesterday, the last three laps were crazy because I got pole and then David [Gaviria] came by and took pole. Then on my last lap I was able to get pole. It was like the hardest qualifying I ever had. I knew it was like a race so I was trying real hard.” AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport BigM Weekend Presented by Lucas Oil Miller Motorsports Park May 29 Provisional Qualifying Session Two Results (wet conditions, all on Dunlop tires): 1.
