RKA Wine Country Motorcycle Ride to Benefit Thanksgiving Food Drive
Riders Treated to Laps Around Sonoma Raceway
SONOMA, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2017) — RKA Motorcycle Luggage and Sonoma Raceway will partner for the 17th consecutive year on Sonoma Raceway’s Thanksgiving Food Drive.
RKA, a Windsor-based manufacturer and retailer of motorcycle equipment and luggage, will host a 90-mile motorcycle ride through Guerneville and down the coast on Highway 1 on Saturday, Nov. 11; riders of all skill levels are invited. The ride will depart from RKA at 8 a.m., with registration from 7:15-7:50 a.m. at their Windsor location. The ride will conclude at approximately 11 a.m. at Sonoma Raceway, and all riders will be invited to take a few laps around the Sonoma Raceway road course.
Riders are encouraged to bring five or more non-perishable food items or make a $10 cash donation to the food drive, which benefits Friends in Sonoma Helping (F.I.S.H.) and the Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) in Santa Rosa.
In addition to regularly scheduled distributions of food, REFB is distributing thousands of pounds of food to evacuation centers, shelters and other community resources helping fire victims. They have also implemented Station 3990, a drive through, free grocery distribution at their warehouse and select other locations to those impacted by the fires.
In the first 12 days after the fires began, REFB distributed 950,000 pounds of food: 114,000 pounds went to partner organizations, 281,000 pounds was distributed through REFB programs and a staggering 533,000 pounds (57%) was moved through Station 3990, car load by car load. The donations poured in during the first two weeks after the fires but are now beginning to dwindle. However, the number of people turning to them for help continues to increase. The capacity to continue to provide emergency food to the fire victims depends on generous people who are able to donate to food and funds drives.
FISH (www.friendsinsonomahelping.org) has been helping Sonoma Valley residents in times of need since 1970 and provides not only food, but clothing, transportation and emergency rental assistance to Sonoma Valley residents in need. FISH has been a beneficiary of the raceway’s food drive since its inception in 2001.
In addition to the ride, all participants are invited to purchase raffle tickets to win Sonoma Raceway race tickets, a GoPro HERO 4 Black camera, riding gear and more. Tickets are $1 each, seven for $5 or 15 tickets for $10, and can be purchased the day of the ride.
