Sonomafest Features Five Days of Motorcycle Action at Sonoma Raceway
Pro Superbikes Return, May 3-4
SONOMA, Calif. (April 25, 2014) – Sonoma Raceway will continue its long tradition of motorcycle racing with five days of two-wheel action slated for its scenic venue, April 30-May 4.
Sonomafest 2014 will be headlined by the return of professional motorcycle racing to the 12-turn circuit, as a full field of Pro Superbike and Pro Sportbike professional riders joins the American Federation of Motorcycles (AFM) weekend for the second round of the GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout presented by Yamaha, May 3-4. The weekend will include Pro Superbike and Pro Sportbike main events, as well as a full schedule of amateur races.
The five-day lineup will also include the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA), Supermoto USA and 3J’s Track Days to continue the history of a spring motorcycle weekend in the Sonoma Valley.
Sonomafest will feature plenty of on-track action on the 12-turn road course, as well as a charity track day, group motorcycle ride and Supermoto racing.
Ticket prices for individual events are listed below; camping is available for $50 (does not include event tickets). Kids 12 and under are admitted for free at events at Sonoma Raceway. 3J’s Motorcycle Track Day, April 30
The 20th 3J’s Motorcycle Track Day will kick off Sonomafest with a full day of riding on the 12-turn road course, a catered lunch, T-shirt, raffle and an evening reception for all riders on Wednesday, April 30. It’s the perfect day for any two-wheel enthusiast, and it’s all in the name of charity, as proceeds benefit Speedway Children’s Charities, the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway. 3J’s Motorcycle Track Days events have raised more than $275,000 for worthy causes since 2003. Cost is $275. The National Historic Cup Road Race Series will feature nearly 250 entries, with practice and racing slated for both Thursday and Friday. The series features vintage and modern motorcycle and sidecar classes. Plus, AHRMA has partnered with the zero-emission U.S. eMotoRacing Series featuring the best in electric motorcycle racing. Tickets are $15 per day or $25 for a two-day pass.
AFM Racing Featuring the Superbike Shootout Series, May 3-4
For the first time, the popular AFM weekend will include the new GEICO MotorcycleSuperbike Shootout presented by Yamaha (www.superbikeshootout.com/) with Pro Superbike and Pro Sportbike main events. The entry list will include a who’s-who of the country’s top professional motorcycle road racers, including Josh Hayes, Cameron Beaubier, Melissa Paris, Bobby Fong, Garrett Gerloff, Martin Cardenas and Jake Zemke. The AFM series (www.afmracing.org) will feature more than 200 amateur riders competing in a wide range of categories – from novice to expert. Classes include Production, Superbike and Formula, with the best and quickest riders competing head to head in the premier AFM Formula Pacific Challenge. The pro-am style event will feature practice, qualifying and AFM premier class main events on Saturday, and plenty of racing action on Sunday. Spectator tickets are available at the gate for $25.
Supermoto USA, May 3-4
The weekend will also feature Supermoto USA (www.supermotousa.com) at the Sonoma Raceway Karting Center with racing slated for Saturday-Sunday, including an Unlimited Pro contest on Saturday afternoon. Race fans will be treated to action-packed racing on the three-quarter mile, 16-turn track, which is a combination of asphalt and dirt. It’s one of the most challenging tracks on the Supermoto USA circuit. Spectator tickets are available at the gate for $25.
RKA/Sonoma Raceway Wine Country Charity Ride, May 3
Riders can enjoy a scenic group ride from the track on Saturday, May 3, with the RKA/Sonoma Raceway Wine Country Ride. The ride, which will be organized by RKA, will include a scenic cruise through the Sonoma and Marin County and head west to the Pacific coast as well as a stop for lunch before concluding back at the raceway. The ride is FREE (does not include lunch) but a donation is suggested as all proceeds benefit Speedway Children’s Charities. There will also be charity raffle tickets for some incredible riding gear.
