Southwest Vintage Cup 2007 debuts at Firebird West this past weekend CCS Affiliate, RoadRace Southwest (www.roadracesw.com) played host to the first round of the Southwest Vintage Cup 2007 races at Firebird West on Feb 18th. The Southwest Vintage Cup 2007 is a grassroots series run by the racers themselves. They will have three additional rounds in the coming months. SMRI (www.smri-racing.org) will be the host club when the series moves to Albuquerque for the July and August rounds (July 14-15 and Aug 4-5). The series will wrap up in Phoenix again with races at Firebird Main on November 4th. The series has three Historic Vintage classes (lightweight, middleweight and Heavyweight) which are for bikes built prior to the 1979 model year. Modifications must be “Period type and style”. The series also has a SuperVintage class for newer machines (up through the 1983 model year) and allows basically unlimited engine, brake, wheel and suspension modifications.
