Richmond, Calif. – Tired of the same old “Wheelie Wednesday” social media post? SpeedMob, Inc. will pay tribute to the great women of motorcycling every Wednesday for the rest of the 2014 calendar year with social media hashtag #WomensWednesday. Most people are familiar with #WheelieWednesday, spotlighting the motorcycle stunt of one-wheel riding, but we are going to switch it up for a tip of the hat to the pioneering women who have impacted motorcycling for the last century.

Although traditionally a male-dominated activity, today roughly 12 percent of motorcycle owners are women – a 30 percent increase over the last decade, according to the most recent estimate from the Motorcycle Industry Council. Motorcycle popularity among women continues to increase each year, with more than six million female riders today.

The history of female influencers is rich but far too often the women of this sport are overlooked. SpeedMob is making strides to change this by honoring women motorcyclists in its weekly Wednesday social media posts. #WomensWednesday will include everything from the revolutionaries who paved the motorcycle pathway for women from the beginning, to the top female riders active in the sport today.

“Women have been pioneering their own path in this sport since the 1900s and continue to create a growing presence on the racetrack and in our industry” states Tim Calhoun, President of SpeedMob. “In my career I have had the pleasure of sponsoring and working with many of the athletes we will feature in #WomensWednesday. I want to ensure as head of SpeedMob that we continue to support women racers but also create greater awareness around those who paved the path for theses riders and racer athletes. It is much deserved and we are excited about this awareness campaign.”

Be sure to follow SpeedMob on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn to keep up with their exciting new approach to weekly social media news and updates!
