California State Championship At Infineon: Big Names, Big Grids, Big Speeds.

The second round of the California State Championship presented by Dunlop saw even more of the biggest names from across California converge on the 2.5-mile Infineon Raceway circuit.

In Formula One, Jeremy Toye, representing Willow Springs Motorcycle Club, got a meteoric start from the fourth row behind 12 AFM racers. Toye pulled off the fastest lap of the race at 1:38.800 while chasing AFM front-runner Michael Earnest and WSMC champion Jeff Tigert. However, it would be five-time AFM #1 plate holder David Stanton’s turn to play the comeback kid, as his shaky start and fight to the front mirrored Corey Sarros’s determined ride at Buttonwillow Raceway in Round One. Stanton cut through the field from sixth place to overtake Tigert, Earnest, and finally Toye in a very dramatic pass in turn 11 to gain the lead and hold on to win the Leo Vince/Factory Bodyworks/SBK Paint Formula One win on his new race bike the Mach 1 Motorsports-backed, Kenny Norman-prepped Yamaha R1. Stanton, Toye, and Earnest put on a great show at the front of the twenty one bike grid, separated by only .05 seconds almost the entire race.

“This was the most fun I’ve ever had in this race,” said winner David Stanton, “The level of skill and trust we have to race so close at the speeds these guys run is just amazing. It was awesome to race so well, and against such good competition that Jeremy and Michael give… it was just great.” All three podium finishers ran Dunlops.

Stanton also took the win in Safari Cycles Formula 40 Heavyweight, edging out WERA’s Aaron Ascher by just 3 points to take the overall class lead.

In the battle for class championships, WERA’s Bryce Prince took the lead in Factory Body Works and Yamaha Champions Riding School 600 Superbike followed by AFM’s Jason Lauritzen in second. WSMC’s Matt Quigley took the lead from AFM’s James Randolph in Catalyst Reaction Suspension and Driven Open Production in overall points. Galfer and SBK Paint 750 Superbike saw AFM’s Neil Atterbury take the top spot from WSMC’s Jeremy Simmons. All three new class leaders run Dunlops.
