20th February 2015 – It was a terrific start to the season at Phillip Island today for Team Honda Racing with #27 Jamie Stauffer topping the time sheets in each session and securing Pole position for both Superbike support races ahead of team mate #17 Troy Herfoss. #16 Josh Hook will start the weekend’s races in P4 on the grid.
Stauffer is pleased with how the event is unfolding, his fastest qualifying lap time a 1:33.054 sec. “We are definitely off to a great start for the first event and being the World Superbike Event it makes it all the more enjoyable. I have been fastest in each session so far and the bike feels top notch. I do believe we have more speed to find yet so we’ll see what happens in the race tomorrow.”
Herfoss was 2nd fastest overall for both qualifying sessions today, his fastest lap a 1:33.276 sec. “I feel pumped heading into tomorrow’s race; we had a really good start to the event. I’m starting from P2 on the grid for both Superbike support races so I am in a really good position to try for the win. I know it will be tight racing, but we’ll see what we can achieve.”
With just 6 tenths between Stauffer’s Pole position and Hook in 4th place on the grid after qualifying, it is easy to see that the battle will be on in both Superbike Support races this weekend. Hook is confident he can challenge for the win this weekend. “I’m pretty happy with how we went today in qualifying, we tried a few things over the sessions and I feel good about the direction we are heading so we’ll see what happens tomorrow in Race 1.”
Team Honda Racing will be on track tomorrow afternoon for Superbike Race 1 at 1:55pm AEDT. The goal; to fill the podium with Honda CBR1000RR SPs.
