SBS Breaks (Brakes) Lap Records!

At the Summit Point Summer Cycle Fest [August 19], Mark Heckles set a new lap record during the CCS Unlimited Superbike race, setting a 1:10:972 on his Dunlop shod Yamaha R1, but Stefano Mesa one-upped him, and went 1:10:728 on his BMW S1000RR in the CCS Unlimited GP race. Both are long-time riders on SBS and the common parts between them are the industry-leading Dual Sinter brake pads.

The DS brake pads were released to the public in 2007 but has continuously been updated since.

It is still the brake pad of choice with most top racers at the Isle of Man TT and is currently used in World Superbike, Supersport, Moto2, Moto3 and in National Championships around the world.

World Endurance teams prefer the SBS DS pads as nothing else on the market comes close in terms of longevity and of course, performance.

Congratulations to Mesa, Heckles and other racers using SBS products.

Mesa Brings Pirelli’s 2018 Track Record Total to Seven

ROME, Ga. – Pirelli Tire North America congratulates Stefano Mesa on capturing the brand’s seventh absolute motorcycle track record bounty of 2018, surpassing the track record total set by Pirelli-equipped rider’s in 2017. Mesa, who was competing aboard a 2018 BMW S1000RR, eclipsed the track record at Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia on Sunday, August 19 during the Championship Cup Series (CCS).

“Since mounting Pirelli tires, Stefano has been on fire,” said Oscar Solis, road racing manager, Pirelli. “He’s captured numerous track records and is now adding another one to his already impressive collection. His team is very small, yet effective, and everyone at Pirelli is glad to be a part of the program. Congrats Stefano, Mauricio and Karen!”

Stefano Mesa celebrates with his team after setting the motorcycle track record at Summit Point Motorsports Park.

The motorcycle track record was set by Mesa in the Unlimited GP class as he uncorked a flawless lap of 1:10.728, topping the previous record of 1:11.400 that was set in 2009 by Jeff Wood. Mesa’s BMW featured a Diablo Superbike SC2 slick on the front and SC0 compound on the rear.

“This is an awesome gift to receive for my birthday and I’d like to thank my pit crew for having my bike on point!” said Stefano Mesa. “I’d also like to thank Pirelli for the bounty gift with setting this track record. It’s been incredible being teamed up with Pirelli and I hope that we can continue breaking more records together in the future.”

Mesa now holds three track records this season, previously setting the pace at Palm Beach International Raceway in January and Daytona International Speedway in March. Pirelli continues to put forth the biggest bounty in the brand’s history for 2018 and Mesa took home a $750 tire voucher for the third time this year.
