Mesa Wins Again

CCS Florida – Homestead-Miami Speedway

August 6, 2017

Stefano Mesa won the Unlimited Grand Prix race yet again at Homestead-Miami Speedway on his Kawasaki ZX-10R. He was first off the line the drop of the green flag and was untouchable for all six laps of the race. Behind him, Sean Dwyer settled into a solid second place with Bruno Silva third, the top three finishing the race with an all Kawasaki podium.

On the podium, Mesa thanked Pirelli, Luis Dominguez, his parents, Palmetto Bay Collision, and “Everybody who helped me out to get out here. I’m putting out all my all,” he continued. “We make a good team together and we’ve got the thing (ZX-10R) set up perfect. Thermosman’s got this thing rolling. We don’t have to touch a thing. We go anywhere and the bike rides perfect. It’s always on point.”

“Pirelli,” Mesa remarked, “These tires are amazing. I love that Dwyer’s getting the hang of them and he’s coming back strong. So I know there’s going to be some hard racing eventually and it’s coming so we’re getting ready for it.” Dwyer was unable to compete during the prior round due to mechanical issues during practice.

Dwyer stated, “I was telling Stefano earlier that he is riding the best I’ve ever seen him. I’m going to have to step up my game. The kid is riding unbelievable right now. He’s got the bike set up unbelievable. And, now we’re both on Pirelli tires. Pirelli one, two, the tires are amazing. I’m getting my confidence on those and we made a step forward this weekend so I was real happy with it. It was a good race.” When it was noted that he and Mesa have the same hair style now, Dwyer exclaimed, “I’m trying everything to catch this guy, I’ve got his haircut, you know I’ve got his tires, you know what I mean? I’m gonna start speaking Spanish and we’re riding dirt bikes together. Whatever it takes!”

“Bruno was all over me,” Dwyer noted. “I knew they were going to pull off a miracle and fix that bike and come out strong. (Silva suffered mechanical issues during the first race of the day) I knew Bruno would ride real well and he was all over my ass that whole race. I could hear him the whole time. I could hear (motor sound) going into eight every time. That’s his spot, so I had to get through seven really good in the last lap. And he did a great job. I just want to thank Pirelli Tire. We got some 24’s earlier today too and that’s the fastest I’ve been on this bike. So I’m getting my confidence in the tires and the bikes finally working.”

Silva remarked that with about two laps to go, “I committed a mistake in turn eight. I had to go outside the concrete and everything. But, I’m pretty happy with the result. Thanks a lot to God for the opportunity to be here, ART Performance, Orlando, Fernando my brother, because they had to re-calibrate the bike completely, they had to pull the transmission apart and they did an amazing job. It means a lot for me to be here.”

Mesa also won the GTO, Unlimited Supersport, and Unlimited Superbike races, running undefeated. The youngest of the Silva brothers racing trio, Lucas, was the winningest racer of the event with five first place finishes. He won the GTU, Middleweight Supersport, Heavyweight Supersport, Middleweight Superbike, and Heavyweight Superbike classes on his ART Performance Yamaha YZF-R6.

CCS Florida is scheduled to compete again August 26-27th, in a combined event with the Southeast Region at Roebling Road Raceway.
