CCS Florida – Homestead-Miami Speedway

July 1-2, 2017

Stefano Mesa won the Unlimited Grand Prix race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the sweltering heat and ran a near lap record fastest lap time in the process on his Westside Performance Kawasaki ZX-10R. Mesa put down the fastest time of the day during lap two of the race. His time of 1:23.976 edged close to two-time and current lap record holder Geoff May’s fastest time of 1:23.131, set in December 2009 on his EBR 1190RS.

Mesa was out front for all six laps of the race and put a big gap between himself and the rest of the field with his quick pace. Behind him, Felipe MacLean held down a solid second place while Bruno Silva worked his way from a difficult start into third place. Mesa finished the race without challenge, taking his third victory of the day. He also won the GTO and Unlimited Supersport races, and finished second in Unlimited Superbike.

On the podium, Mesa thanked Westside Perfomance Luis Dominguez, his family and all his friends for supporting him. “I felt great all day,” he exclaimed. “The bike’s been on point. I really think it couldn’t get any better. But we’re always working on it. We’re always trying to maybe get to the lap record, hopefully some day.”

And when asked about his fastest lap time in the heat of July, “What can I say,” Mesa commented on his Pirelli tires, “Awesome, awesome tires, even in this heat there’s amazing grip on them. You can rip on them. 23 is pretty impressive in the summer.”

CCS Florida is scheduled to compete again August 5-6th, at Homestead Miami-Speedway. For full results, lap times, points standings, remaining 2017 season schedule, and additional information on past and future events for all regions, please go to: www.ccsracing.us
