Marlboro Ducati’s Casey Stoner has led every practice and qualifying session during the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and he continued that trend during Sunday morning’s short warm-up session. After the new, dedicated practice start period, Stoner set about lapping on his Bridgestone-shod GP07 and turned a 1:21.975 on his 16th of 16 laps. That time was quicker than the 1:22.292 he recorded to earn pole position during qualifying Saturday afternoon. Rizla Suzuki teammates Chris Vermeulen (1:24.400) and John Hopkins (1:24.446) both improved on their qualifying times and were the second- and third-fastest riders in the warm-up, respectively. The session included two crashes. First, fill-in rider Miguel Duhamel tucked the front going into turn three and crashed his Gresini Honda RC212V. He walked away from the scene but did not go back out in the practice. Seconds later, defending World Champion Nicky Hayden got into turn 11 too hot and lost the front end of his Repsol Honda RC212V. Hayden crossed the track, ran the short distance to his garage, got on his back-up bike and continued in the session. Gresini Honda’s Marco Melandri was seen in his leathers in his garage, but the young Italian did not record a time during the warm-up. Melandri crashed heavily during MotoGP qualifying Saturday and suffered an injury to his left ankle. 2007 FIM MotoGP World Championship Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Monterey, California July 22, 2007 Warm-up Results: 1.
