MotoGP™ championship leader Jorge Lorenzo was joined by reigning World Champion Casey Stoner, Nicky Hayden, Cal Crutchlow and CRT rider Randy de Puniet at the press conference marking the second MotoGP round at the Gran Premio bwin de España in Jerez. Factory Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo, who has enjoyed significant success at the Spanish track over the years, taking the last two wins here in the premier class, is confident ahead of Sunday’s race and is looking to extend his lead at the top of the standings. He comments: “I won two times here in 250 and twice also in MotoGP, and also my second podium came here in MotoGP in 2008 so we can say that Jerez is one of my favorite tracks, and one of the tracks which is quite adapted to my riding style.” Yet the 2010 Champion is not getting carried away with his Qatar victory: “It’s always good to start like that, but the championship is very long and we have a lot of races to come this year.” Repsol Honda’s Stoner is in confident mood after drawing many positives from the opening round, despite suffering from arm-pump: “Basically with arm-pump it’s difficult to replicate because we don’t get to go out and test these bikes in the week so it’s hard to know if you’ve made any improvements or not. We can only do what we have done and hope for the best this weekend. At the same time there are a lot of positives to take from the last race, more than negatives, so I think we can come here with a fair bit of confidence.” Britain’s Cal Crutchlow of the Monster Tech3 Yamaha squad, who surprised everyone in the last race was just happy to be at the press conference. “It’s nice to come to Jerez being fourth in the world championship and come to the press conference”¦ Last year I had to pay to get in”, he said. “If we can do a good job this weekend then I’m happy with that, last year wasn’t too good because I crashed and finished eighth, it was eventful.” American Nicky Hayden, who finished third last time at Jerez, remains realistic about his and Ducati´s chances: “Obviously Qatar didn’t go so spectacular, we got beaten by a lot there so we try not to get too down with it and come here and try to be closer to the front. The team is working really hard and I think we have some potential there, so hopefully it will get us a good result this weekend.” Frenchman Randy de Puniet, of the Power Electronics Aspar squad is looking to put a difficult Qatar behind him: “Qatar was not such a great weekend for me and the team because I never had the feeling I had in the tests at Jerez two weeks before the race. Now that’s finished and we are in Jerez where we had a good test one month ago and I’m confident for this weekend.” Earlier in the day, Alvaro Bautista (San Carlo Honda Gresini), Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP), Pol Espargaró (Pons 40HP Tuenti) and Romano Fenati (Team Italia FMI) visited the Cortijo La Peñuela of ex horseback-mounted bullfighter Fermín Bohórquez, where they got to travel in a horse-drawn carriage, ride horses and view the wine cellars.
