Starting with qualifying, it was first year Expert Eric Stump who took charge of the Pirelli Diablo 600 Challenge and made it his own. Stump, aboard the Rapid eManage Honda 600, took the pole position on Saturday and then only trailed one time during the opening lap of the final when Mike Selpe took the hole shot heading into turn 1. Blake Kelly, Dale Blackman and Ryan Patterson gave chase on their Yamaha R-6’s but the rookie continued to pull out nearly a full second a lap on the second place battle until he built up a 7 second lead. Kelly ran into problems leaving Patterson and Blackman to race for the runner up spot. Selpe, after a disastrous first lap, was forced to work his way back up from 10th position, catching the second place battle on lap 4 and moving past on lap 5. Once into second place, Selpe on his Pitstop Motorsports R-6, gapped the battle for third by 3.4 seconds at the checkered flag. Patterson was able to earn the final podium position by nipping Blackman at the stripe by .039 seconds. At the end of the 10-lap final, it was Stump, followed by Selpe, Patterson and Blackman for the top 4 positions. The Pirelli Diablo 600 Challenge is a spec tire class in the Championship Cup Series featuring a cash purse at all 51 CCS sanctioned events in 2010.
