From a press release issued by GSX-R Trophy Press Office: THE ACU Suzuki GSX-R600 Trophy held its first open day at a cool Mallory Park yesterday 19th February, but that didn’t stop the eager riders taking to the track. The event was hosted in order to provide this year’s batch of riders with some track time. It also allowed them to catch up with the organisers, their coaches and meet the GSX-R Trophy Ambassador, three times British Superbike Champion John Reynolds. With only two months until the GSX-R Trophy kicks off in earnest the riders were more than glad to use the day as a shake down test and they all took to the track despite the chilly conditions. Dave Luscombe, Business Development Manager for the ACU said: “I’m pleased with how the event progressed. We had an assortment of riders from last year and new sign ups from this year so it all worked out well. The guys got on track and the new riders got to find out what the GSX-R Trophy is all about so it has been a good day all round.” JR also enjoyed the opportunity of meeting the riders for this year’s Trophy Championship. “I’m really excited about being involved with this project, “he enthused. “It is a great way to find young talent and days like this really reinforce the amount of time and effort that is being put behind the GSX-R Trophy. The riders got some track time which is really valuable – and we all got to have a chat so we could learn a bit about everyone’s aims and goals for this season.” As well as providing a cost effective way to go racing the Trophy will also provide two rounds as support races for the British MotoGP held at Donington Park on the 21st-22nd June, allowing the riders to showcase their talent in front of the GP crowd. Wild card opportunities in the GSX-R750 Cup which supports the World Superbike championship will also be up for grabs; and at the end of the season the Championship winner will race the Rizla Suzuki British Superbike at the Race of the Year held at Mallory Park. The GSX-R Trophy season starts on the 4th-5th May at Cadwell Park. For further information please visit www.gsxrtrophy.co.uk.
