The Start of a New Season DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 19, 2007) Excitement is starting to mount as riders make ready to set sail for Daytona International Speedway and the Daytona 500 K, Round 1 of the new SunTrust MOTO-ST Endurance Series, March 3 and 4. The kick off event for the world renowned Daytona Bike week, the Daytona 500 K will boast intense competition and expert pit work as a full field of riders battle their way around the 2.95 mile infield road course for the win and important series points. Showcasing three classes, SuperSport Twins, Grand Sport Twins and Sport Twins, the skill of the riders coupled with the durability of their machines and the team’s ability in the pits will all come into play in this action-packed 500-kilometer race. And not only will fans be treated to incredible event filled with action packed racing, but they will also get to view a variety of spectacular machinery, including motorcycles from BMW, Ducati, Buell, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Hyosung and more. A win in motorcycle endurance racing is much tougher than a win in automobile racing. Unprotected by roll bars, yet swapping paint and banging handlebars, these incredible two-wheeled athletes exhibit a unique blend of determination, consistency, smoothness and courage as they vie for glory in one of the most competitive motorsports series in the world. Many of the teams that competed in the inaugural SunTrust MOTO-ST held at Daytona last October are already planning to return, including Team Motorrad who held the distinction of being the very first entry for the first ever MOTO-ST. “We are definitely looking forward to running at Daytona again this March,” says team principal Ivan Messina. “We will once again field a BMW R1200S with myself, Frank Shockley and Brad Phillips taking turns on the track.” Hailing from Asheville, NC, Messina has been racing for the past 12 years and has earned numerous wins and accolades along the way, as have both his teammates. “We took a 17th finish overall and are hoping to better that. We will be good to go when the Green Flag waves.” MOTO-ST is organized by Professional Motorsports Productions of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) of Pickerington, Ohio. The Grand American Road Racing Association, based in Daytona Beach, Fla., provides the series with administrative and commercial support.
