2014 EVO World Champion returns to Team Pedercini

Team Pedercini Racing is to become a Kawasaki Satellite Team within World SBK Championship for the 2015 season and EVO World Champion, David Salom, has been announced as their rider.

This is the first time Kawasaki will have a Satellite Team, and they have chosen the team of Volta Mantovana, led by Lucio Pedercini for the Championship assault.

“We are very happy for this opportunity” – Team Manager, Lucio Pedercini , explained. “I want to thank Kawasaki for the bond we have created to make this possible and also all people that have worked with Pedercini Team. It is they that have helped us to reach this prestigious goal. I am sure that we will be very competitive in the new season with the combination of the Ninja ZX-10R and EVO World Champion, David Salom. In fact, he rode with us in the 2009 and 2012 seasons so I am very pleased to see him come “home” once more.”

David Salom commented. “I am so glad to be with Team Pedercini again. This time will be different because I will ride an official bike, I’m a Kawasaki Motors Europe rider, and some people that have worked with me in the last season will help me again in 2015.

We are working to create an ambitious team to achieve good results. The Pedercini Team has demonstrated a strong and consistent commitment to this project and, for them, it will be a sort of “year zero”, with many changes. “

For Kawasaki Motors Europe, Racing Manager, Steve Guttridge added: “Having won the World Superbike EVO title with David Salom this season within our Kawasaki Racing Team, it has been fantastic to keep him inside the Kawasaki family for 2015; this time racing again for Team Pedercini in the full Superbike class. David was a key person to help Kawasaki develop our future race bike for 2015 and, in-line with Dorna’s future rules for World Superbike, he really showed the true potential of the Ninja ZX-10R as a Championship winner in this production based series.

“For 2015 as KRT move back to the traditional two man team and no split category in the SBK class, we will have the opportunity to help both Pedercini team and David with his KRT EVO class experience, crew and materials.

“Pedercini themselves have been a loyal, long standing and supportive team using Kawasaki machinery in WSBK so we truly hope that the close cooperation from Kawasaki will elevate the entire team by making this step with Salom and creating a closer relationship with KRT for the coming season.”

David Salom:

Born in Palma de Mallorca, Spain in 1984.

Taking his Spanish Supersport 600cc championship winning experience in 2006 to the world stage, Salom learned his trade at global level before heading to a SBK ride on Team Pedercini’s Ninja ZX-10R.

A year on a three cylinder WSS machine in 2010 witnessed some very strong results with two fourth places (Phillip Island and Valencia) and a season end position of 6th place with 99 points.

Moving to a Spanish team and Kawasaki in 2011 he podiumed at Silverstone, in second place, gained a third at Aragon and two pole positions (Phillip Island and Silverstone). He achieved 2nd in the WSS Championship.

As WSS runner up he was now truly on the radar of the SBK teams and 2012 saw him reunited with Team Pedercini in WSBK on the privateer Ninja ZX-10R package.

Helping to test the Kawasaki SBK Evo bike in 2014, Salom was chosen as the rider to lead Kawasaki’s official KRT Evo challenge going on to win the WSBK Evo title.
