WSBK launches Day of Dreams at Donington
Donington (Great Britain), Thursday 22 May 2014 – The UK round of the 2014 eni FIM Superbike World Championship, being held at Donington Park in Leicestershire began in style today as the usual Thursday media activity included an all-day charity event in aid of Riders For Health.
The ‘Day of Dreams’ began at 11am with members of the public joining Ron Haslam and Niall Mackenzie on track before the action moved into the paddock for a series of interactive sessions that brought the crowd close to the stars of World Superbike.
A pit walk was followed by the official SBK press conference on stage at the SBK Paddock Show before an autograph session with a selection of WSBK riders representing all manufacturers involved in the championship, as well as the Country hosting the event.
Pata Honda’s Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam, Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team), Voltcom Crescent Suzuki duo Eugene Laverty and Alex Lowes, Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia Racing Team) Chaz Davies (Ducati Superbike Team), Leon Camier (BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team), Claudio Corti (MV Agusta RC – Yakhnich Motorsport), Aaron Yates (Team Hero EBR) and Christian Iddon (Bimota Alstare) were given a warm welcome by the fans attending the event.
Current points leader Rea also started a contest by hiding a helmet visor somewhere within the WSBK paddock. Whoever retrieves it and delivers it back to him will receive one of Rea’s own racing visors – directly by the hands of the British rider.
At 15:30 a two hour extravaganza that included an auction started, with the fans of SBK giving their contribution to the important activities held over the years for Riders for Health.
Tomorrow the on track action begins at 10 am local time with the first of the Free Practice sessions.
