TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH “” Noah Talley, a 13-year-old Supermoto racer from Elk Ridge, Utah, who is a regular competitor in the Plaza Cycle Utah Supermoto Championship at Miller Motorsports Park, has been chosen to participate in the 2009 Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup. Talley, who started riding in motocross at age 8, has been competing in Supermoto races for the past two years. This season he competed in the 450cc Intermediate, 250cc Expert and Asphalt Only classes in the Plaza Cycle Utah Supermoto Championship, regularly competing against much older riders. He won the championship in the 250 Expert class, and finished third in the 450 Intermediate and Asphalt classes. He might have won all three titles, except for the fact that he had to miss the final round in order to attend the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup tryouts at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala., over the weekend of October 4-6. The Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup is a unique program for fostering motorcycle talent in promising young riders who compete on actual road racing circuits in front of raceday crowds at high-profile professional motorcycle racing events, on identical KTM RC 125 bikes and under identical conditions. The program is designed to create a level playing field so that the best and the brightest emerge at the top and no young talent is overlooked due to a lack of financial resources or professional backing. Based on the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Europe, the AMA U.S. Rookies Cup focuses on seeking out North and South American racing talent between 13 and 17 years old. At the tryouts, Noah competed against 117 young riders from 10 different countries. Of those, only 14 were chosen to compete in 2009. What made his task all the more difficult was the fact that, unlike the majority of riders against whom he was competing, he had no road racing experience. Although disappointed to have missed the opportunity to clinch all three local championships, Noah readily admits that it was well worth the sacrifice in light of the outcome. “I am so excited to have been chosen to compete in the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup!” he said. “This is such an honor, and the best possible opportunity for a young rider like myself. I’ve really enjoyed racing Supermoto at Miller Motorsports Park, and for sure I would like to have won all three of those championships, but this is a dream come true. I’d like to thank the folks at Red Bull, KTM and Alpinestars, and especially the coaches at the tryouts. I can’t wait for the season to start!” “We are going to miss Noah in the Plaza Cycle Utah Supermoto Championship,” said Mitch Wright, director of racing for Miller Motorsports Park, “but we’re very happy that he is getting this prestigious opportunity. We look forward to monitoring his progress in the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup, and in the professional ranks in the years to follow.” For tickets or information regarding Miller Motorsports Park, call 435-277-RACE (7223) or visit the track’s website at www.MillerMotorsportsPark.com.
