Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association’s Round Two returned to The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington, for the traditional three days of Memorial Day weekend racing.

Round One saw constantly changing weather, with racers gambling on dry and wet setups. This past weekend the racers’ only gamble was to see who could stay upright in torrential rains. At times standing water in the pits was over 1/2″ deep!

WMRRA 2012 #3 plate holder Ryan Sutton (Yamaha) was able to take a commanding lead in the Overall Championship by winning 600 Superbike, 750 Superbike, and the first heat of Formula Ultra. Hot on his heals was Kyle Staples (Yamaha) with wins in both the second heat of Formula Ultra and 750 Supersport. Kyle’s successful weekend put him solidly in second place for the Overall Championship.

Vintage racing saw a pair of wins in 750 Vintage for John Nilsson (Honda) on his beautifully prepared Honda CR750 Replica. Mick Hart (Honda) also has a pair of wins in Formula 160

250 Ninja racing had some hard fought battle in the rain with young gun Jack Stevens (Kawasaki) pulling out a close win over his dad, John Stevens (Kawasaki), in Ultra Lightweight Sportsman, and Bill Cameron (Kawasaki) winning 250 Cup when a hard charging Jack Stevens lost grip in the rain on the last lap.

The wet weekend’s racing was a testament to die-hard Pacific Northwest racers, who will race in virtually any conditions!
