Since yesterday afternoon, the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, the Honda Michelin Power Research Team and the Yamaha France GMT 94 are involved in a battle that looks much more like road racing than endurance. With the pit stops, the leadership changed several times. After having lost time due to a loose engine case bolt, the Yamaha Austria Racing Team is back into the leading trio, and took over the third position from GSR Kawasaki at the end of the night. Another drama happened this morning when the Yamaha France GMT 94 had to retire, with an over-heating engine. During the night, the Suzuki Endurance Racing team increased a bit their leadership. At 8 am, the official Suzuki of Vincent Philippe, Freddy Foray and Olivier Four has a two laps lead over the Honda Michelin Power Research Team of William Costes, Matthieu Lagrive and Josep Monge. The Honda Michelin is very fast on track, but, as team manager Alex Vieira said, “We need to be faster during the pit stops”. Four laps behind the leaders, the Yamaha Austria ridden by Gwen Giabbani, Steve Martin and Igor Jerman put the hammer down and still want to believe in a victory. For now, Gwen Giabbani is the fastest rider in the race, since his first shift, with a 1’41.487 lap. The GSR Kawasaki of Kenny Noyes, Kenny Foray and Javier Fores is just behind the three leaders. In a right pace since the beginning of the race, the Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers of Stéphane Molinier, David Brière and Jérôme Tangre are having a fantastic race so far in fifth place, ahead of the Suzuki RAC 41 City Bike of Greg Junod, Vincent Houssin and Greg Black. Despite a few gearbox problems yesterday evening, the Suzuki AM Racing Moto Compétition holds tightly their eighth place. In seventh place, the Kawasaki Maccio Racing of Lionel Richier, Julien Millet and Fred Moreira is also the first Superstock bike. In that class, are coming next the Suzuki Motors Events Joe Bar Team of Gérard Muteau, Emilien Humeau and Fred Bernon and the Qatar Endurance Racing Team of Mashel Al Naimi, Rashid Al Mannai and Anthony Delhalle. The sun is now back at Magny-Cours and still seven hours of racing remaining.
