AMA PRO SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES RETURNING TO VIRginia INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY WITH A NEW NAME AND SOUTHERN THEME Event Promises to be Bigger and Better Than Ever Danville, VA – VIR announced today that the highly popular AMA Pro Racing Superbike series will return to VIRginia International Raceway August 13-15th, 2010, marking the series 10th year anniversary at VIR. Formerly called the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals, the event will now be called the Suzuki White Lightning AMA Pro Superbike Nationals. “We are excited to once again be hosting AMA Pro Racing for its 10th year at VIR,” said Josh Lief, VIR general manager. “The AMA LogoSuzuki AMA Superbike weekend has consistently been one of our biggest weekends since VIR re-opened in 2000, and we’re all looking forward to another great event, with a slight change — we renamed the event to better reflect the roots of southern racing and its ties to ‘White Lightning.'” Lief added, “People travel from all over the country to attend superbike races and we believe that incorporating the local culture improves the entertainment value for the motorcycle fans that make the trip to Virginia. The beauty of the southeastern region of the United States and VIR’s park like setting makes this a great destination. We encourage y’all to make the trip to the Suzuki White Lightning AMA Pro Superbike races this August.” The VIR event will mark the eighth stop in the scheduled ten races, so fans will be treated to spectacular racing as the championship battle heats up. The event weekend features a double-race in each of the AMA Pro Racing classes on both Saturday and Sunday. New additions to the event this year will be the Harley Davidson XR 1200 class and an electric motorcycle race. VIR will be hosting one of five races in the new Harley Davidson XR 1200 class that weekend. Also on the racing calendar is the exciting electric motorcycle series – the TTGXP! See http://www.egrandprix.com/index.php for more information. Just like in past years, VIR has planned a wide range of exciting activities to keep the event a fan favorite, including two big screen TVs, live music, fireworks, camping, vendors, special VIP ticket upgrades which include food and VIP viewing areas, motorcycle parking areas, a Harley-Davidson pig picking, a free kids zone, the VIR Girls and more.
