Newly-signed Swan Yamaha British Superbike rider Ian Hutchison broke his left leg Wednesday during a rehearsal for a motorcycle show in England. According to a posting on the Swan Yamaha website, Hutchinson apparently “twisted his leg awkwardly whilst riding an off-road bike during practice for the stunt show.” Hutchinson, who rose to fame when he won a record five races during the 2010 Isle of Man TT, missed nearly all of the 2011 race season due to badly breaking his lower left leg in a crash during a British National event at Silverstone. Hutchinson underwent several operations and was fitted with an external fixator to save his leg and only returned to action last November, when he placed third at the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix. According to Swan Yamaha Team Owner Shaun Muir, Hutchison’s new fracture is “away from his previous breaks,” but the leg will be fitted with a new external fixator.
