SHANNONVILLE, Ont. – Parts Canada Superbike Championship points leader Jordan Szoke won a wild battle for pole position at this weekend’s final round at Shannonville Motorsport Park on Saturday. Riding the Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX-10R the Brantford, Ont. rider set a new lap record of one minute, 4.632 seconds with just under five minutes remaining in the session to claim his fourth Inside Motorcycles Pole Position Award of the season. Szoke also extended his points lead over Steve Crevier in the Parts Canada Superbike standings heading into Sunday’s final race. He now has a 28-pointe edge, 266 to the 238 of Crevier with 50 points available to the race winner. Crevier qualified third on his Team Toyota Yamaha / Fast Company Yamaha YZF-R1 with a time of 1:04.704. “This is exciting for me,” said the 28-year-old Szoke, the defending Superbike champion. “This is typically my worst track. There are a lot of places I expect to win the pole but this isn’t one of them.” Joining the two title rivals on the front row will be Szoke’s 16-year-old teammate Brett McCormick and Mississauga, Ont.’s Matt McBride. McCormick, from Saskatoon, turned a fastest lap of 1:04.682 on his Kawasaki while McBride set a 1:04.782 on the Riders Choice Suzuki GSX-R1000. The third contender for the Parts Canada Superbike title, Cochrane, Alta.’s Clint McBain qualified fifth with a time of 1:04.851 on his Suzuki Acceleration Racing Suzuki. McBain is now 41 points behind Szoke in the standings with 225. The top five were all under McBride’s previous track record of 1:04.900. The top qualifying spot changed hands three times in the final 10 minutes. McCormick beat Crevier’s mark with just over five minutes remaining, only to have Szoke nip him moments later. “I knew my time would be good,” said McCormick after his best qualifying performance of the year. “But you never know what can happen. Jordan’s always fast and Crevier seems to pull a rabbit out of the hat every weekend. But we have an awesome race set up.” In other action at Shannonville, Maple Ridge, B.C.’s Crevier claimed pole for Sunday’s Yoshimura Pro 600 Sport Bike race with a time of 1:05.637 on his Yamaha YZF-R6. Szoke was a close second with a 1:05.676 aboard his Kawasaki ZX-6R and takes an 18-point lead over Crevier, 261-243, into Sunday’s race. McBride was third on his Suzuki GSX-R600 at 1:05.724.
