Coming off a successful multi podium double-header weekend at Mosport International Raceway two weeks ago, the Canadian Kawasaki racing team is ready for another back-to-back assault on the Parts Canada Superbike and Yoshimura Pro 600 Sport Bike Championships at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia this weekend. With defending champion Jordan Szoke leading the Superbike title hunt by 38 points aboard the new ZX-10R, and the 600 Sport Bike by 28 points mounted on the ZX-6R, the team is looking forward to extending the lead over Kevin Lacombe, who sits in second place in both series. “I’ve got a bit of a cushion in both championships and with two races this weekend I’ll be pushing to increase the gap some more. I won the 600 race at Shubie last year and got fourth in Superbike” said Szoke. “So a repeat in 600 would be good, and a win in Superbike this time out would be what I’m shooting for. We had a great setup for both the ZX-10R and ZX-6R at Mosport and I’m confident we’ll achieve that at Shubie.” Lacombe, who was holding down third in the 600 class going into Rounds 3/4 at Mosport, was able to take over second spot from Szoke’s teammate, Brett McCormick, after the Saskatoon native was forced onto the sidelines for the entire weekend due to a crash in the first 600 race. McCormick currently occupies eighth in 600 and is tied for 16th in Superbike, a drop of four places due to the unfortunate circumstances at Mosport. “Mosport was definitely a disaster for me, but I’m not dwelling on that. My focus is on the three remaining rounds. I’ll have had two weeks to recover from my injuries and I should be close to one-hundred percent at Shubie,” said McCormick. “It’s a very physically demanding track, there’s really no place to take a rest, but I’m confident I’ll do well and start reeling in some valuable points this weekend.” Just two years ago, at the age of fourteen, McCormick set the current Atlantic Motorsport Park Amateur 600 Sport Bike track record, clocking a time of 1 minute 10.623 seconds over the 1.6 mile (2.56 Km) circuit. McCormick will be looking to build on his fourth place finish in last years in Pro 600 race, just over one second behind race winner Szoke. Looking forward to the Superbike races, both Szoke and McCormick will be keen utilize the advanced technologies present in the 2008 ZX-10R to maximize their efforts on the tight and twisty circuit. Although the track at Atlantic Motorsport Park is not unlike Mosport, featuring some daunting sections and a large number of elevation changes, it is known as one of the most demanding tracks on the Parts Canada tour. The 11 turn course will pose the biggest for test riders and team technicians to find a suitable setup. “Because of the rough nature of the track, and depending on the weather, it will be a gruelling four days for the entire team, especially Jordan and Brett,” said team manager Jeff Comello. “But we had a strong weekend at the single-round event last year and we’re prepared to pick up where we left off to make it a successful double-header this time out.”
